Blown save sends Twins to 6th straight loss We took a 5-2 lead into the 8th, and 5-3 lead into the 9th only to lose 6-5 in 11 innnings. Brian Duensing blows his 3rd save pitching just 1/3 inning, giving up 2 runs. After the game, GM Mike Lowe met with Ron Gardenhire about the closer situation. After being presented with a few different options, Gardenhire reportedly did not want to budge on using Duensing as his closer, so Lowe made the decision to demote Duensing to AAA Rochester. "This allows us to also take a look at Hiro (Hiroyuki Kobayaski) who's been pitching well in AAA at the age of 35," said Lowe. The Japanese right hander is rumored to be auditioning for a possible trade before the July 31st deadline. ----------------------------------------- Twins crush Indians on 18 hits, 6 walks Well the losing streak is over as our 2-4 hitters went a combined 11 for 14 with 5 RBIs and 3 walks. In his first start since signing a 2 year extension, Ubaldo Jimenez earned the win pitch 7.2 innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 9. ----------------------------------------- Winning in all fashions: Twins victorious over Indians, 1-0 in combined shutout Ryan Doumit had yet another 3-hit game, as the Twins sneak a series win against Cleveland by shutting out the Indians 1-0 behind Scott Diamond and the bullpen. Josh Roenicke earns his first save after being promoted to closer upon the demotion of Duensing. ----------------------------------------- Twins win 3rd in a row, begin west coast swing Just a nice all-around win as the Twins kick-off a 7 game west coast road trip. ----------------------------------------- Blanton near perfect: Twins fall as Angels break 0-0 tie late A game that was 0-0 going into the 7th ends up being a 3-0 loss for the Twins. The short-lived win streak is over, as the Twins muster just one hit off of Angels' starter Joe Blanton who was completely dominant, throwing just 97 pitches for the complete game shutout. ----------------------------------------- Blown save strikes again: Twins surrender 3 in 9th, drop 2nd straight to Angels Ryan Roenicke was rocked in the 9th giving up 3 runs in 2/3 innings pitched. He was relieved after putting the winning run on base, and Liam Hendricks gives up the winning hit just 8 pitches later. Makes you wonder about all of these late losses... ----------------------------------------- Around MLB: July 23: Pittsburgh Ships McKenry to New York: After prolonged negotiations Pittsburgh agreed to ship 29-year-old catcher Michael McKenry to New York for 26-year-old shortstop Eduardo Nunez. The deal is awaiting confirmation from the league office but neither team expects any hang-ups. "It took longer than expected," said one GM, "but we knew that the deal was going to happen." Currently McKenry has 1 home run and a .160 batting average. To date this year Nunez is batting .317 with 3 home runs. July 23: Jason Kipnis out 3 months (injured in Friday's game) July 23: Buster Posey is day-to-day after totaling his custom built, $500,000 Mercedes-Benz July 24: Matt Kemp injured, out for 3-4 weeks Last edited by Mike Lowe; 12-19-2013 at 10:09 AM. |

I find it interesting that Gardenhire hasn't used Kobayashi a single time since I swapped out Duensing for him.
Drama! lol |

One bad inning, Twins fall to hapless Mariners Twins lead 5-1 at one point, and then the 7th inning happened. That's 3 straight loses now. Aaron Hicks is back in 7 weeks though! At least it doesn't say "months" anymore! Twins have signed a couple of minor leaguers: 19 year old MR Jose Martinez (cut by Arizona earlier this week) 18 year old SS Christian Gomez (cut by Dodgers earlier this week) There was a FLURRY of trades last night...glad I have trading set to "Very Low!" Here's a screenshot of the current league standings (and leaders) that will help put the deals into perspective: http://screencast.com/t/td2XL7yMI ----------------------------------------- Around MLB Jose Bautista out 3-4 months Giants extend Tim Lincecum for 4 years, $49.3M. Mariners, Royals Confirm Deal: The Mariners and Royals pulled the trigger on a deal that will see 29-year-old closer Tom Wilhelmsen and $514,500 in cash head to Kansas City in exchange for 20-year-old minor league catcher Cameron Gallagher and 21-year-old minor league shortstop Michael Antonio. A source close to Seattle officials said "The teams spent long hours coming to the agreement and in the end, both agreed the deal should help both clubs." This season Wilhelmsen has notched 25 saves with 69 strikeouts and 27 walks in 45 innings while registering a 3.20 ERA and a 2-5 won-lost record. Trade: Logan for Coulter: Several Yankees and Brewers players soon will have to start shopping for a new home. It was announced today that the two teams came to agreement on a trade. New York will get 19-year-old minor league catcher Clint Coulter and Milwaukee will pick up 28-year-old reliever Boone Logan in return. "I'm not surprised by the news," one of the players told reporters, "It's part of the business and I understand that. I am looking forward to playing for the Yankees." For the season his stats show Logan has 1 save in 40 relief appearances with a 3-3 record and 3.98 ERA. New York Sends Niese to Cleveland: The general manager of the New York Mets has signed off on a trade for Cleveland's 21-year-old minor league second baseman Tony Wolters and 23-year-old minor league catcher Jake Lowery. To complete the deal, the Mets will send 26-year-old starting pitcher Jonathon Niese to the Indians. This season Niese has a 7-8 mark in 20 starts with a 5.65 ERA. He has given up 134 hits in 121 innings, struck out 100 and issued 25 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .283 batting average against him. New York-San Francisco Announce Deal: New York and San Francisco have agreed in principle to a trade. The Yankees will send 27-year-old reliever Joba Chamberlain and $1,160,000 in cash to the Giants for 23-year-old minor league right fielder Mac Williamson. The deal is expected to be finalized shortly and the clubs will be introducing their new players to the press when the paperwork is complete. Taking a look at this year, Joba Chamberlain has made 42 relief appearances, recorded no saves and compiled a 5-0 won-lost mark and a 4.10 ERA. In pitching 48.1 innings, he has totaled 61 strikeouts and 20 walks. Marlins-Brewers Swap: Cishek for Nelson: Miami and Milwaukee have agreed to a trade today. 27-year-old closer Steve Cishek will go to the Brewers. In exchange the Marlins will receive 24-year-old minor league starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson. This season Cishek has made 45 relief appearances, saving 23. His record is 3-8 with 54 strikeouts in 47.2 innings and a 3.21 ERA. Last edited by Mike Lowe; 12-20-2013 at 10:51 AM. |

7 run 1st does Twins in Seattle's 8 and 9 hitters combined to go 7 for 8, with 7 RBIs. Enough said on that game. 5 of those first inning runs, however, were unearned. ----------------------------------------- Twins crush Seattle to even weekend series Twins had 8 runs by the 4th inning, and won 10-5. Nice to see! ----------------------------------------- Twins come back in 8th, take Seattle series Twins trailed 4-2 in the 8th, and put up 4 to win the weekend series. Monday is an off-day for Minnesota. ----------------------------------------- Around MLB Trades trades trades! Too many to post, so here's a screen grab! 2013-12-23_1401 - mradamski80's library |

Ryan Doumit has had career highs in AVG/OBP/SLG thus far. He's 32 and is owed a ton of cash the next 3 seasons...tomorrow's the trade deadline...

James Shields' complete game curbs Twins Just a solid pitching performance, and the Twins get beat pretty convincingly. Trade deadline is tomorrow, but reports are that no team has entered serious talks on the two players the Twins are rumored to be shopping, Ryan Doumit and relief pitcher Hiroyoki Kobayashi. Sounds like the Twins will be quiet at the deadline, having already trade Morneau and Perkins earlier this month. Here's an updated trade log around MLB: http://screencast.com/t/JQfnUW61 ----------------------------------------- Around MLB Nori Aoki has 5 hit game in Red Sox debut |

Hey guys, I've kept up simming just not posting. We're in the middle of August now, and it's the same old same old.
Just wanted to say hello! I'm thinking of speeding things up to get to the end of the season, because well, the Twins goose is cooked!
