I'm looking to see if anyone would like to form a "team" to work on year-specific photopacks?
OK, I've done some of this on my own, though I admit a TON was wiped out with one of my longest-running franchises (it started on OOTP 10 and I wound up enjoying it so much, I think I skipped 11 and then played 12 and 13, transferring it over eventually but at one point my laptop with all of these different packs I had compiled and kept sloppily stored in one big folder, kind of unsorted, were gone with my two franchises- the throwback I had fun with and had a lot of player packs ready to fire up for in advance, saved and ready to rip, and then a Nats franchise I had really gotten into and played forever. Also in there was a BlackSox thing I had been experimenting with since I usually don't like to go that far back, but it was fun... unfortunately right around then is when that laptop fried and I lost all of the photos for the packs i had nearly completed (some mid-to-late '90s and at least one in the '00 was either close to finished, or 90% or more until this, even if some shots weren't the best and some prospects had unidentifiable hats and/or jerseys in shots, no matter how hard I searched for something team-affiliated for some guys).
I would like to resume this project, perhaps aiming (so we can all enjoy the holidays and then take our time once they're over to boot, what with spring training and a lot of things to go until the new year begins in '14) to complete a few seasons, maybe try to gun for those that are most wanted by user demand (and forum feedback could/would help here??) and then once we have at least 5, maybe a few more if we have enough contributors (or maybe I'll just take a stab at this on my own, or try to, if no one else is interested in helping).... I would try, at the very least to do 3-5 years worth and as much of the minors as I can, and especially those who are players who are going to be important cogs in time, as long as some users here maybe can give me a little help tell me which years they're most interested in, or what years are kind of "practical").... And by that, just to confirm I mean in the sense that the players who will be in the pack stuck with the team they're on that year for a few years to come, so say the '99 pack wouldn't need a TON of adjustment when making a '00 pack— that's what I mean by "practical" if that helps. I am not even sure if there are any years that are really easy in that regard or not, but if there are, feel free to help me by pointing them out! I have a few nice sources to find photos, and a nice scanner and a lot of random baseball cards I also plan to dig through, and for potentially compiling any older photo packs (I guess anywhere from '84-89 are my best cards for this purpose or random shots that may not be easy to find online, even minor league stuff) or mid-late '90s, since I stopped collecting and anything from about '96 or '97 onwards isn't mine, but there's a lot I wound up with and have hoarded in a bin that I can scan and use for helping to build a Facepack for a lot of years....and I have some odd shots, for sure. The typical 90x135 sizing would work just fine, based on what I do have to work with both of which I might scan and adjust in paint, and what I know I can find online from various sources to compile yearly packs.... but if someone is good with other sizes, I'd love to have two sizes to choose from, or some options- the more the better, I figure, but I also think the simpler it is kept, the more packs can be compiled in a timely manner if we keep it from becoming rocket science.. I am looking for people who just love to play OOTP like myself and may know of ways to help, or want to. We could pick some specific years or see if there are any in demand that aren't out there or on the add-on central yet, and try to prioritize what to work on first. I'd love as many people who would like to help, and am not looking for anything in return..... just some help, and I'll do all I can as well too! If enough people were to want to help, we could either work on multiple years at once for multiple packs, or each person could take certain teams to work on for one set year we chose based on whatever factor is used to pick the order, and years to try and compile facepacks for. One last thing, since these would be for historical replay, we would just be going off of the historical roster in OOTP from X year (well, I use the updated gambo/will_t database, or the one that everyone else seems to use..can't think of its info offhand now, gah). And other than draft picks, assuming they would be assigned to team with that method, which we can also include, we would just go off of the rosters and teams for the historical seasons. It helps make it easier for us to see who needs a photo a little quicker, and while common sense, is something I wouldn't think of..haha. Anyway! If anyone is interested, or has suggestions for a year or years to work on? Please reply! I'd love 5-10 or really anyone to help work on a project like this, with no huge rush as we can aim to use these photos in historical play in next year's game just as well as whatever time there is to start a new throwback in this year's. -N

Season Photopacks
May I refer you to the thread entitled 'vintage season photopacks' which I believe is dedicated to the very objective you seek. This has been superbly put together by Ceej.

Thank you, bud. And also: thank you for not being rude & snarky... this is actually my buddy's old name we once shared when controlling the same team on OOTP5 what feels like EONS ago in an OOTP league...
goods times. I had a few important threads marked on my other name if I remember right, but I was really confused when coming on here recently as to where to find what in anticipation for next year's release. I will head over there soon- thank you again!I have a lot of packs I have either begun work on, or at the least have completed a few teams for specific seasons with matching unis, and also a reservoir folder with photos of the player in any other uniform or hate that I've been able to find him in, cropped as best as possible, in case of an in-season trade that you would be capable of updating the photo with should anyone want to. I mean, I gotta say, I started to do this (saving players in as many uniforms/hats as possible-- minors included, in case there were instances where no hat fit, but a generic or MiLB shot worked....) more often than not because over the years of just playing OOTP dynasty or throwback franchises alone, I have seen real-life trades, while not exactly on par with timelines, emulate or send players to teams they played for around similar time periods (rarely for the same person too, but you get what I mean... it can be helpful to have their other uniform/headshots in those hats). Gonna shoot on over there soon as I said, and hope to contribute as much as I can! Thanks!

Years to Work On
You are welcome, not sure what prompted the rude and snarky comment, most of the people on this site I find to be very co-operative, though I have to admit to feeling that there has not been the same degree of working together towards a common goal as there was a few years ago.
Chris (Ceej) has concentrated on providing packs in color which to me makes his contribution's to this site unique and has gone back as far as 1947. So my suggestion as to which year to begin with would be to start on 1946 and work back. I would happy to contribute in whatever way I can as I do store images on a yearly basis. |
