Play-by-play gives the out of town score board.
When you're playing out your game with detailed pbp, how about have the pbp actually read out the scores around the league?
Like this:
"As we move to the bottom of the seventh, lets check some scores around the league. They're in the 5th inning in New York where Boston is leading the Yankees 4-2. Lester battling Sabathia. Mark Teixeira has hit his 12th Home Run. In Baltimore..."
This way you can shut off the out of town scoreboard in the game screen; save some screen real estate AND, it would be fun and suspenseful! Just like listening to a broadcast on the radio.
Now sometimes this could become tedious, so it would only happen if you are using detailed play-by-by and you should have the option to hit the space bar or enter key to skip it.
Also, it may be hard to code, but maybe you could have it only read the scores of the teams you are following in the pennant race.
