Manager advice on trades

Why does this happen sometimes?

I work out a trade deal that the other side accepts.
My manager expresses an opinion.
Then I get the other side to throw in a player on a minor league salary.
Then my manager likes the trade less.

For example, I got agreement to a trade (iOOTP13) which my manager called "a fair deal." Then when the other team agreed to throw in a 20/21 MR with a minor league contract, my manager said that the deal did not persuade him personally, and I should ask for another prospect.

Since a minor leaguer costs me nothing, what is the manager's objection?

I have seen this several times from both sides -- sometimes the opposing GM says the trade is almost OK but when I offer a prospect he says it's a bad deal.

It's a bug, i think. There are times when a major league player can have a negative trade value (high salary, long contract, being disliked) but unless the minor leaguer the opposing GM agreed to give was was on a major league contract, there's no reason for it.

By the way, you can't always trust your manager. I've seen many times when he says we're not getting much in return for the three nobodies we are offering, and all we would be getting back is a stud starter that might be the difference in winning the title -- yeah, not too much in return....

OTOH his guidance is USUALLY pretty reliable in telling you that you could get more from the trade.

What's best, though, is the reaction of the other manager.

This is barely fair = maybe another one star, maybe not
This is rather fair, barely = you can get more, but not a lot
That is a fair offer = it's not fair at all, you can get more
That is a good offer, let's do this now = you made a mistake, check who you're trading or demand a top prospect back
