A reasonable expectation from a game that has been around for a long, long time.

I played the tabletop type games like Stratomatic, Dynasty League, PTP and Replay. Eventually, I tried the PC and online versions of those same tabletop games and then I started to try out the management sims. I play a game like OOTP and find it amazing at first, looking over the player pages, the facegen images, pouring over all the statistical information, the player’s ratings, attempting to strengthen my team through trades and drafts….this is great stuff! I LOVE the unpredictability factor when I use OOTP’s game engine as opposed to the recalculation setting when using historical lineups. When I want to see my team in action and I zoom up to the 8th inning of a game to do so, I end up finding the experience underwhelming. I have to wonder how many people that have tried the game eventually walked away from it after this exact series of events. I’ve walked away, too, but I keep coming back for all the rest of the features that make this a wonderful game experience and hope that eventually this facet of the game is improved. It looks like OOTP is about to do just that and the future of this game couldn’t be brighter because of it. I don’t play the console games, either (certainly nothing wrong with them; the aim is to have fun doing whatever it is that you enjoy), I’m just looking for a slightly better playing-out-the-game experience than the one that is currently in place.

I have been a part of several gaming forums; I have close to 6000 posts on one of them. The forums have been, for the most part, great places to hang out to discuss the game and other sports related issues but I can honestly say that I have never been on a forum, or part of a forum, that had trolls with thousands of posts.

The only issues I have with OOTP are ingame. Everything pre-and postgame is wonderful. But shuffling virtual paper is not enough for me. I want the tension, pace and drama experience of MLB. Out of a typical 15-game day of a MLB schedule, I watch one game and sim the rest, one game at a time (setting lineups, checking pitching staff fatigue, running the sim, reading the box score, repeat as needed). I want the game I am watching to immerse me into that ballpark, those fans and the intrigue of the matchup on the field, as well as how this game ties in with the rest of the action going on elsewhere. For me, TV or graphics is not necessary; there is nothing better than a baseball radio broadcast done well. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned "Radio Baseball," a text-sim pioneer. I remember that game, and reading the text gave you the feel and pace of a baseball game, though it was not pitch-by-pitch. The pace, commentary and strategic interplay, especially as it concerns the bullpen, is why I gave up on OOTP 13 and did not buy OOTP 14. If the latest version has improved on these points, I haven't read it ballyhooed in these forums, so I guess it is pretty much the same.

I don't think you understand the meaning of the term troll.

But hey, to each their own. Just keep your arguments civil. The last one was... I disagree with it, but that is just opinion vs opinion. Your previous comments, not so much.

I can't believe you told me to shelve the arrogance....and then you post this.

You're pretty funny, troll, but you know what you can do besides hide behind your keyboard, eh!

You consider that comment trolling?

Again, I don't think you know what trolling means.

I asked you to reign in the arrogance because your comment was arrogant and (as I also mentioned) is what causes this particular debate to ratchet up in intensity every time it comes up.

There is a big difference between:

This game would be a lot better if it had graphics.

and

This is so blatantly obvious that anyone who disagrees it stupid.

Guess which category "It seems to me that there are some here that don't want their game to become popular." falls into?

(Note: this isn't one-sided. There are people on the other side who act this way... just way less of them.)

It is that kind of passive aggressive bull**** that makes these boards less than great sometimes. In fact, it is a hell of a lot better example of trolling than whatever you accused me of. In some ways it is even worse than Wolf, who normally epitomizes the worst that the board has to offer, because at least he is OPENLY aggressive and doesn't try to pretend that he is the aggrieved party when he acts like an ass.

``````````
Oh, and the 'hide behind the keyboard crack'? What are you, 12? Grow up.
And I have once again committed my gravest sin onthese boards (or anywhere) and let someone acting like an idiot get under my skin.
And my block list is expanded to two names.
I'm out.
Comments like the ones that you made here epitomize arrogance and can offend and anger people....that, too, is trolling. Just because you have been doing it for so long on this forum doesn't mean that it is something other than that.
Do I really think that there are people in this community that would rather see this game remain less popular than it possibly could be? Yes, I honestly do; of course, it's more than okay to disagree with this but there is a way to do so without being rude. I was not going to allow that rude response to go unchecked. What if I had suggested that you were narrow minded for not realizing what I think or believe?
Am I 12? No.......I'm 13.
Now go back to pretending that you are ignoring me.....like anyone believes that.
I'm so with you and have been wanting some kind of animated player graphics since I first started playing the game with the 04 edition. It doesn't have to be 3D but it sure would be nice. I could/would even settle for Microleague Baseball graphics....those were pretty good but surely not the same as Front Page Sports Baseball graphics that the game crashes because of something that changed after FPSBB 98 was made. If I could get that to work again I'd play that instead until Markus got off his butt and gave us what we want. )
I wonder how long it would take for me to turn off the graphics? Not immediately, certainly. A month maybe?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Markus did say in a post last year as we were calling for graphics that is was coming. So you might just as well enjoy what time you have left with these boring text messaging artifact and antiques because graphics are coming. )) The only question left is when Markus? Soon I hope.
Yes he said it around april when I make my usual appearance to input my wants and dislikes about the game.
Now he said it, now he has to live up to it. )
If they ever added graphics, make it so we can turn them off because I don't want them. I'm playing OOTP to manage baseball teams and be a GM. If I want to play video games, I can do that somewhere else.
So, I'm kind of curious but at what part in the game do you pump your fist and go 'yeah, all right!'? Is it when you look at the standings at the end of the season and see that you are in first place? Is there a point in time in the game in the manner in which you play when a situation can be described as 'nailbiting'?
You do realize that the GM's actually watch the playoff games in person, right?
Now, something similar was intended to happen for OOTP 14 too IIRC.
I don't think there's any way they would make it anything other than optional. Markus isn't stupid.
I have skipped the lat few versions of OOTP, but graphics will certainly draw me back in. Heck, I'll settle for older 2D Earl Weaver Baseball style graphics (and a computer announcer ala EWB/Puresim would be fun two).
Here's hoping it finally comes with OOTP 15.
I had been calling for graphics for awhile myself. But, I have changed my mind. There is no real need. There are more important priorities right now such as in-game AI, AI roster management, and improvements to the financial model. 3D graphics should be waaaaay down the list such as they currrently are.
That is all.
P.S. If you have less than 316 posts as of the moment I post this response or you only come around April to input your wants and dislikes about the game then don't argue with me.
No real need if you already are a fan of the game as it already is. Why do you think improved graphics are on the way? It's like the small handful of Diamond Mind guys that insist their game is 'the best' even though it has essentially sputtered to a slow and predictable death. Those guys like to blame the death of their game to the online game version. The Diamond Mind fans refuse to take their heads out of the sand and realize that there was a reason that the game moved to an online game format.
I agree, the AI needs a lot of improvement but the game is in it's 14th version with numerous updates and the crowd is still seeking AI improvements. If you're still around 14 versions from now you'll probably still be asking for improvements to the AI. I wouldn't necessarily say that the game 'needs graphics' but it desperately needs to improve the presentation of a game that is being played out, however.
