Automatic Call Ups

For those of us that use online leagues and aren't able to replace injured players in a timely fashion, we should have some sort of system where we can tell the AI who to call up if so and so gets hurt. Like a depth chart that extends into the minor leagues. So if I have a shortstop injured, the AI will automatically call up the next guy on my list to replace him and fill the slot.

I hate having 24 or 23 players on my roster because I'm not able to react to the injury for a few days during sims.

I understand what you're saying, but remember - in OOTP call ups are automatic. IRL, a GM doesn't click a button when an injury happens during a game and a player from the minors instantly appears on the roster. It can take a full day of travel for a call up to get to the big league team.

This is what depth charts are for, a player gets injured, another player gets inserted into the line-up.

But yes, if it happens on day 1 or 2 of a 7 day sim, it's also unrealistic because it doesn't take 5 days to travel to the big club either. I never liked having to wait either when I played in online leagues, but I always looked at it as - every other owner in the league suffers the same fate as me, so it's not unfair in any way.

Some kind of list you could pull from that takes maybe a day to complete (to emulate real life) would be nice. The only problem I see with that is, what if the guy who's your replacement is injured in AAA, what does the AI do then? Will this suddenly stop the Commish from completing the sim because of roster problems?

Lots to consider when adding something like automatic call ups.

That's precisely why many major league clubs have been actively seeking affiliates geographically closer to the parent club's home city. It reduces the time needed for recalls to arrive and it allows the club to keep closer track of its minor league players.

I think my idea is feasible but I'm not entirely sure how I'd suggest modeling it. I definitely think some sort of system should be in place to avoid the 8+ days some teams spend with under 25 players on the team.

Maybe call it an 'injured reserves' list and have the AI automatically draw the next best candidate from there. You could rank a couple guys per position in the minor leagues should a catastrophe happen.

Of course, if a team doesn't fill out the list, they could just deal with 24 players until they respond to the injury. It shouldn't delay sims just because there are only 24 players on the team.
