Trust My Manager?

Hi, just started playing ootp14 while i wait for fhm to get a little more fun, and I'm hooked. I am a casual baseball fan at best, and not the best with how the game works. I am wondering ..if i give control of demotions and lineups to my manager...can i be pretty sure he will put forward my best guys and make the moves that make sense? or is the AI wonky and should i do it myself. It would be cool if the AI was good enough that it could help me learn and I could trust it...but sometimes I notice an empty roster spot in my lineup before a game..or it seems that my best players aren't being played. Any insight will be helpful..thanks

Are you playing fictional or historical? What are your manager's ratings?

The general answer would be yes, you can trust your AI manager to make good decisions.

I just started playing last week and like you I am still a bit lost on the overall multitude of options so I am letting my manager handle all that stuff. I will occasionally fiddle with things but for the most part it is working out well. The only things he has done that has irked me so far was at the beginning of the season he tried to sneak some veterans down to AAA and lost them on waivers and I have lost a few players to the Rule 5 draft that made me cringe.

I'm playing a 40 team fantasy league and so far the only real issue I have is my owner idolizes David Glass

i have now gone through 15 seasons, i have tried a lot of different options.

i trust the manager, but not implicitly. i check every 3-7 days to see what they are doing. setting line-ups is fine to me... defensive subs are overkill, but i am fine with it.... I have seen great decision like turning my all-star reliever into a starter, and he turned into my best pitcher for 5 years. i have actually had to over rule the manager a few times i use Strategy settings.

i will never let AI make decision as who makes the roster. i will never again give AI control of releasing players, but mainly because i care about average prospects and i don't want them released. so i now have to handle DLs.

the other thing i don't trust AI is to optimize my farm team's positions, and realize i would be better having my 6/10 SS with great arm learn 3B, so i go through the minors twice a year to have special assignment..i also decide myself when players should be moved up... i am way less aggressive as AI. but then again, i love the minors....

I tend to go to the transactions page and have the AI update everything rather regularly just to be safe. But in theory it should take care of itself.

yes, if it didn't i would think the game would stop, since it wouldn't be playable

here is an example of AI management (not my team), which you might want to have at least a check a couple of time a season. Gonzales with those ratings was listed, and used as a 1B 90% of the season in AAA. (Note: i'm the one as Commish who changed him to C, as i am trying to acquire him as my back-up),,,,

so i usually have a look 2 weeks in, and mid way through the season on the prospect i follow on my teams, but let the AI do the roster decision... (note i do not let the AI do moves between level... i just increased the roster size by 2 and let teams play with injuries, doing a sweep every 2 weeks)...

final note. i like prospect, probably more than majors, so this may not be what you want....

edit: thanks to whoever posted about snipping tool..this is nice

For the player you want to specify use...You go in the Action menu, in Set Game Strategy... in Force Use/Use at Position pick use as Starter. (or for players, use as what ever you want them to practice)
