Scouting players/auto-saving on Jan. 1st
Does anyone else have issues when players are re-scouted and the game auto-saves at the end of each "year"? It takes an exceptionally long time for the re-scout and auto-save to complete, longer than it does at any other point in the season. OOTP even indicates that it's "not responding". Fortunately, it snaps out of this and does return to normal; however, I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

The transition to Jan 1 requires a kind of close out housekeeping for the year in question. It also produces if enabled, an Almanac.
If you look carefully many files are being written to disk as of Dec 31. These files are useful for those of us who compare stat output from year to year.

Yes, this always scares me. Feels like the game will never return, and crash. That's why I usually back up my files at the end of the season (usually after the free agent list is created), then again at the start of the regular season. And even a third time mid-season if I've made a lot of changes to my team.
But that Jan. 1st thing always worries me. |

Definitely a good idea to make regular back-ups of league file though, regardless of the Jan 1 turnover. Last edited by Bluenoser; 12-11-2013 at 09:15 AM. |

My point by starting this thread is that this is not how it used to be. The previous couple of patches have seemingly slowed it down. For reference, it's an MLB game, started in 2013, with no changes regarding minor league levels and no feeders have been added. It just switched over to 2015, and I've noticed it at the end of both 2013 and 2014.
I don't keep almanacs, box scores, etc, so that, again, wouldn't be an issue. |

A lot of this depends on how fast your computer is, too.
It's always taken somewhere around 15 minutes for me - including having it "stop responding" (which it actually doesn't, that's just Windows freaking out over the process). No patches or newer versions have changed this. |

In any event, I have an i7 processor with a 1 TB hard drive. There's virtually nothing on this computer, either...aside from OOTP, just Microsoft Office and iTunes. |

EDIT: Sorry, just saw your previous post that says you don't have any almanac options on. Still, a standard MLB league is fairly large due to all the minor league teams. My MLB league takes much longer to turn over to the new year than my fictional league with 18 teams and three minor league levels. You basically just have to resign yourself to the fact that when you advance from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, you're not going to be able to do anything for probably 10-15 minutes, maybe longer. See my previous post. I don't keep almanacs, box score and all that jazz. I even turn off baseball cards because I don't want to sit through the game creating baseball cards for awards and All-Star selections.

Realized that after I posted, and just edited my original post. Sorry.

Slugga how big is your league? Mine is 2.42 GB. My PC is slower then yours. My transition from the 31st to the 1st took under 15 mins close to 10 mins. I have 5 ML full minors in MLB with full history. Is it slower since some of these patches, yes but not overly slow.

Unfortuantely, when I switched over to 2015 (did it yesterday), I didn't time how long it took. If I had to guess, I'd say more than 5 but less than 10 minutes. |
