Head to Head Online League Play
I've been hoping to see this for years, and now with the evolution of competitors, and the ability to get a more simulated online experience from console games (like MLB The Show), I would love to see this option added.
I'm not sure if establishing a peer to peer relationship or a server based relationship works best (where OOTP charge a subscription for this), but provide a secure connection to another computer, and let teams have the ability to play against each other, make their own lineups, substitutions, and pitching changes. The strategy could be immense. I would figure the game engine can be built to detect an online game played, and can provide some form of report to the Commissioner. Upon a completion of the game, the file automatically exports to the league server, where the Commissioner would import the result to his system. Games that can't be played within a certain time window would just be simmed as normal. I would hope it should be relatively easy to put measures in place, such as establishing a Clock (10 seconds to select your option - Hit, Hit & Run, Steal 2nd, Pitch Around etc etc) for actual game play, and another clock for calling "Time" to check Bullpens, and other stats (Ex: The Show provides a 5 minute pause for online games, and if the 5 minutes is used, the opponent has the right to force a "forfeit"). How long would a game take if you have active opponents? And the camraderie you can build actually playing games and deepening rivalries would be stellar. I've been around long enough to know there was an attempt at this long ago, but I truly feel that was a different generation of gaming. For all the online leagues I see on MLB The Show, Madden, NHL, NBA, and Clubs at FIFA etc etc, technology and the mature online gamer are seeking that perfect balance for simulation and enjoyment. What better way than to intergrate such a feature into OOTP. I'd absolutely love to see OOTP take this step. For an online league like mine, that has used Online Screen Share programs and live radio broadcast features to do playoffs, All-Star games and Games of the Week, I'd think this is the pinnacle we seek to have a rich, deep universe. Thanks for reading this, and hope to seek feedback from the community, as well as from Markus & Andreas.

Had a thought. I believe Dynasty League Baseball offers such a feature.
Is there any one here who has experience with this, and an opinion on it?

IF i had joined an online league for OOTP I certainly would love it. Makes the game add even more realism with the human equation to the mix.

+1 for online head to head play... I think it would be huge to play against a human player online - so much tension and strategy.
I agree that the technology is mature now, and I would be willing to pay a small fee for this feature. Go Tigers! |

With the recent approval of OOTP on Steam, I'm re-throwing this out here. I continue to talk to people in multiple online leagues, and there is an OVERWHELMING positive if OOTP ever offered online head to head matchups.
The Show is pretty, but it's still more about if you find your spot or time your swing. OOTP is the true way to play head to head. As always, it should be an OPTION, but I am completely thrilled with the idea of playing a series against an opponent online with playoff potential all over it. My previous suggestions stand: Allow teams to play games, but simulate what can't (per normal) within a certain window. More importantly, during H2H play, have a specific timer like online games where there's a "Default" option selected if a choice isn't made, and "x" time to pause and look over your bench/bullpen/make defensive adjustments. This would rival The Show on PS systems, except more able brag to be the most accurate baseball simulator out there on any system! ![]() I'm never giving up on this decade long wish, Markus! Just the field of options is catching up!

+1000 I would totally love to see Head to Head online happen. I think it would take this game to a whole new level. We have been in discussion about this all day after it was brought up. Best idea ever. Please make this happen.

Head To Head On Line League Play
I too request that the next version of OOTP offers head to head play. Many years ago I played head to head league games with Diamond Mind............it worked great.
So, please consider offering that as an option even if there was an additional cost to the game. |

As a gamer who only sims or plays solo leagues I would not want to pay an additional cost for this game. If they ever did bring head to head I would like to see 2 versions of the game. One to be how it currently plays and the second called OOTP/H2H. I would think that this would be a good seller at $49.99 for the many that enjoy Online play and would still be able to keep the non H2H version a deal at 39.99. I would be okay with having an option for the H2H as long as there is not an additional cost for the game. Last edited by SandMan; 12-11-2013 at 04:38 PM. |

The Stratomatic game is $19.99 down from $24.99 a season (a season lasts approximately 2 months)...not exactly cheap but there are many on the online site that play this way, all of the time. I tried WhatIfSports Dynasty and it sorely lacked in so many areas including the fact that you basically had to scroll down the play by play to see a game unfold. If WhatIfSports updated the look of their game, made some great ballpark photos and had a decent game playback feature, I would dig right back into it but OOTP's look is all the way around superior. I would just be happy if OOTP had league games simmed on a server, personally. |
