Trading a player with contract extension - OOTP14

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to this game. In my game session as the Rays, I'm looking to trade for Ian Kinsler of the Rangers (my intent is to use him as an upgrade at 2B only for a half a season since I can't really afford him). But in the photo attached, when I look at his contract info, it says he signed a contract extension (3 years, $33 million). If I trade for him, does that mean I'll have to eat up the remaining 3 years of his contract extension as well?

Should be, if he is on your team. If you only keep him for half a season, and trade him away after, you should free yourself from his payroll obligations.

Yeah it would make sense that I'd have to pay for his contract extension. I was half hoping I didn't have to, but in the end I decided not to complete the trade. Thanks!

Yeah, I mean...theoretically (and this can't happen in OOTP, but FYI), the only way you wouldn't be obligated to pay the extension would be if there was a clause in the contract that says that the contract extension is voided if traded.

this makes me curious. would OOTP allow a player with a pending offer to be traded? what would happen to the binding offer then?

The offer would probably be voided since he's still mulling over the contract and hasn't signed it as of the trade being completed.
