Question about adding free agents

I want to delete all the free agents in one database and add free agents from another database to the first one. However, when I have tried this in an experiment with a different database, none of the free agents showed up. I first deleted all the free agents then imported the .csv file of the free agents I wanted to use. But the free agent list is still empty. I tried another experiment where I switched a few players to different teams then reimported the modified .csv file and that worked fine. Why wouldn't the new free agents show up when the switched players did?

You need to give the newly imported fa's (or any newly imported players) id's that match ids that are already created in the db you want to import to.

What you should do is count the number of fa's you want to import. Then in the db you want to import to, create exactly that same number of fa's. Leave those fa's in the db, don't delete them but export the rosters. Then copy all of the fa's you want to import to the .csv with the newly created fa's and overwrite everything but the ID numbers.

Don't touch the id's! Then import the rosters, and you should be all set to go with the newly added fa's actually showing up.

Okay thanks. But what if I did this: I have another database where the free agents are a mixture of real MLB players and fictional players. If I export the rosters and turn them into .csv files, then delete all the fictional free agents and re-import the rosters, will that delete the fictional free agents in the database as well or do I need to manually delete those in-game? Thanks.

It won't delete them. You have to delete them in game.

Anything deleted in the exported/imported roster .txt's/.csv's doesn't delete in game. It only doesn't import that data. So it's useful if you have large parts of the roster you don't want to to touch or mess up, you can just delete those parts from the file then work on the rest. But any real deleting has to be done in game.

Ah okay, thanks. I was hoping I could do that in Excel as it would save a lot of time.

btw, this is true regarding those id's I sent you as well. You'll have to have id's matching those in your db or they won't work, the import will fail and the players won't show up.

The problem is that the id's aren't sequential to the db you have as we've been adding tons of others players in addition to those 6.

So I'm not really sure you'll have much success in getting your rosters to perfectly match ours, id by id. In fact I'd say it may be impossible to do unless you actually had the latest roster file, which unfortunately I can't give you

I guess you could create enough fake fa's to get the id's as high as are needed (41078 was the highest) then overwrite the players with the correct id's and delete the rest. That's probably the only way you can really make it happen.

I have gotten most of the newly drafted amateurs to show up using your IDs. When I add them to the database, I always check to make sure there isn't a duplicate ID in my database already. And I change them to the correct ID you guys have in the updated rosters database I exported to a .csv file. However, after re-importing my modified .csv file, some of the drafted players didn't appear on their teams but appeared as FAs with another player's Lahman ID and career stats. It's not that big of a deal since I'm going back and re-checking everything. And later, I am going to add all the career stats of every player who's played in our online league since we started in 2003. I already have the stat sheets modified, I just need to add the player IDs.

Cool, that's good! You've probably gotten lucky then, in that you have some extra id's in the db, for whatever reason.

There may come a time though, where you'll run out of those id's and won't be able to import a given player. If that's the case then it shouldn't be too big a deal, you'll probably just need to follow my instructions in my last post.

I think by deleting all those fictional players that that will free up a bunch of IDs so it should hopefully go pretty smooth. If not, I have your instructions to go by. Thanks for your help!
