Scouting reports?

What is the point of asking for a report from my scout if i can just look at the scouting report on the players profile? does it get more accurate the more times i scout him?

I think it is supposed to catch any ratings changes since the last auto-scout.

I happened across another thread where the general consensus seemed to be that asking for scouting reports on individual players is largely a vestigial function left over from older versions where it was more necessary. (I guess those versions didn't have the periodic "re-scouting everybody" reports, or they only happened once a year, or something.)
