Contract Extensions
Hi guys,
I have a player in my fictional online league who has: 2016 Season: $14,000,000 (player option) 2017 Season: $15,000,000 (team option) I don't want to risk losing him. If I try to sign him to an extension, it won't let me start until 2018. If he agrees to an extension, does that mean the options are null & void or can he or I still opt out? |

The only thing that I am not sure about in this situation is that the guy technically has two years left on his contract, even if they are options. I have no idea how the AI handles this; if it reads that contract as having two years left on it, the guy might refuse to negotiate until the contract is closer to being up.

It looks like you may have painted yourself into a corner with that contract structure.

If so, I think that would prove what you said in that other thread. If the player accepts an extension beginning three seasons from now, the options for the next two seasons, be they player or team options, are automatically executed. Makes sense, doesn't it? The team is executing their option and the player his if both parties are agreeing to a new contract extension. Now for the really tough question. What if one of those years is a VESTING option, eh? ![]()

If the player accepts the extension all options become firm. See this player. The 2067 salary was a player option which he would surely have declined.
You can see why I wanted to keep this guy.

I said all. Don't know how that could mean anything else.

Because the example you cited was a player option, not a vesting option. But I believe you because it makes sense. Basically, both sides are exercising any intervening options and waiving any current vesting requirements by agreeing upon a new contract extension.
