Injuries---additional options

Right now we have the option to choose the frequency in which injuries occur. What about adding options that allow us to select how severe we want injuries to be. I envision this as a second set of options that works together with the frequency options already provided.

Severe---this option would result in guys missing extended periods and also result in more career ending injuries.

Normal--this would be exactly what the game already provides

Moderate--this option would be for users that want injuries but not of the season ending type. Injuries would be no longer than a month. I would love it if more day to day type injuries of the red(not orange) could be added. By day to day, I mean the type that will keep a player from playing but not require a trip to the dl.

Low--this would be for the most part day to day injuries.

Again, these options would work together with the very low, low, normal, modern and high that determine injury frequency.

I can see why someone would want this, but as for me, I prefer injury rates and severity to reflect real life.

You can edit the injuries.txt file to do this.

Not a fan of editing. Scared I won't ever be able to edit it back.

While I like your initial proposal, simply backing up the default injuries file is an easy way around this particular concern.

I agree with this statement, and would probably edit the injuries.txt file myself, but many people aren't comfortable with a step like this, so an option to edit it in-game is better.

I'd agree that being able to edit in game would be better. Several times I have seen people argue that a suggested new feature is unnecessary on the grounds that you can work around it by editing files, but I know that I wouldn't be too keen to do that - despite being relatively comfortable with databases etc which a lot of users certainly won't be.

I think that if it is possible to do so, including something within the game is generally preferable to requiring people to edit important files - even though, as mentioned, you should always back them up beforehand.

Edit the files question. If I edit the injuries.txt files will it effect every league I play or is this file league specific?

Every league you START with that file in place.

Once a league is sarted the information is stored in the save game file and will only be changed if you manually re-import the file from the league setup page.

Just copy the original file and rename the copyto ORGinjuries.txt

Then you can edit the injuries.txt file to your heart's content. If you want to switch back at some point for a new league, just rename the file you edited to MYinjuries.txt and copy the ORGinjuries.txt file and rename the copy to injuries.txt

The ability to edit the files gives the user much more power over how his league behaves. I'm not against in-game switches on principle, but I personally prefer being able to do things my way, rather than someone else's.

If OOTP did not allow the breadth of customization that it does, and I was forced to play things basically out of the box, I would not invest the time I do into this game.

But you would still be able to do that. I am not suggesting removing the ability to edit the files! Rather, I was referring to removing the requirement to edit them in order to achieve what you want because the option isn't there in game.

For me, adding a greater number of options within the game is preferable to leaving them out on the grounds that the files are editable. However, I would certainly never advocate forcing people to play things 'out of the box'.

That's why I said I wasn't against it on principle....
