Featherweight- Fifth Round
Manny Pacquiao 153-14-3 (139) vs Jem Driscoll 41-1-1 (16)
Driscoll stopped Manny early in the Nerd one tourneys, what we had early here was epic warfare. Pac exploded out his corner firing left hands with abandon and Peerless Jim responded with sharp counter rights and clean hooks that had Manny's right eye swelling after two ferocious rounds (18-17, 13-15). Jem completely assumed control over the next four rounds, almost toying with Pacquiao as he drilled him with combinations and deftly eluded Manny's assaults with ease. Pac had a huge seventh round, rocking Driscoll several times with clean lead lefts, but the success was fleeting and Jem floored him in the eighth and the eleventh on the way to an impressive UD. 118-107 x3 Ruben Olivares 45-3-1 (40) vs Dick Finnegan 39-3-2 (9) Olivares started strong with punishing hooks to the body and head, but Finnegan quickly turned things around and began to drill the Mexican with clean combinations and counters while Ruben struggled to connect. The frustration mounted and Olivares resorted to some rough tactics but Finnegan maintained his composure and boxed beautifully en route to the upset UD. 117-112, 116-113 & 115-114 Miguel Angel Garcia 22-1 (13) vs Jorge Paez 31-11-1 (12) This was a very entertaining bout that was almost exclusively fought with Jorge's back on the ropes and Garcia had the early edge with precision body shot/head combos, but Paez roughed him up a bit and used clean counters to work his way back into the fight and then some, going on to win the upset MD by the narrowest of margins, 115-114 x2 & 115-115 Fighting Harada 70-4 (36) vs (WBC) Antonio Esparragoza 18-5 (10) They went back and forth with an incredibly fast pace until the champion rocked Harada with a right hand during a dominant sixth round. Harada floored him with a right hand late in round seven before a brutal seventh round for Antonio that saw harada pummel him along the ropes for well over a minute with devastating combinations. Esparragoza briefly rallied before Fighting sent him to the deck again in round eleven with a nasty flurry, Esparragoza was up at four but a flurry of shots sent him back to his corner with both eyes showing the damage of the Japanese warriors blows. Harada continued to dominate down the stretch and he won the title and advanced with a wide UD. 146-135, 146-137 & 145-138

Featherweight- Fifth Round
Alexis Arguello 78-5 (69) vs Juan Manuel Marquez 59-3-1 (43)
They started off slow in the first eight and a half minutes on even terms before Marquez countered a right hand with a thudding hook that floored Alexis for a five count at the end of round three. That set off the action and they traded heavily over the next three rounds with sizzling counter combinations from Marquez getting the better of the heated action. JMM continued to box brilliantly in the seventh and he stung Alexis with a short uppercut that also brought swelling to his left eye. Arguello landed his biggest punch to date in the eighth when he slammed two hooks to the body and snapped Juan's head straight back with an uppercut, Marquez fired back but it was a big Arguello round as he continually pushed the Mexican back with powerful lefts and rights. Alexis kept pushing forward down the stretch and he hurt Marquez again in round nine with a short hook along the ropes before they closed the round trading bomb after bomb as the crowd roared. The final three rounds surprisingly slowed as Arguello worked his jab and probed for a big shot while Marquez countered with right hands. The late rally from Alexis fell short and Marquez advanced via SD 115-112 x2 & 113-115 Chalky Wright 19-4 (7) vs Wilfredo Gomez 77-12-1 (60) Wright used his jab to control the opening round but thirty seconds into round two Wilfredo connected with a short hook that dropped Chalky for a six count and Gomez tore into and landed blow after blow until a punishing four punch combo put Wright down again for the count and gave Gomez an incredibly impressive victory. Ted Lewis 77-21-6 (22) vs (WBO) Robert Guerrero 53-9-1 (30) This was an ugly, grinding, inside battle with neither man scoring very cleanly as they grappled for positioning. Lead right hands from Lewis had him looking in the lead until the final three rounds when Robert scored with enough uppercuts in the clinch to retain his title with an upset UD. 116-113, 116-114 & 115-114 Yuriorkis Gamboa 35-8 (22) vs Tommy Collins 19-4 (13) Gamboa was landing punishing combinations for much of round one when Tommy unloaded a wild overhand right that sent Yuri crashing to the canvas for a seven count and Collins landed two more powerful right hands to close the round and another one that opened a cut on the Cubans left eyelid to open round two. Alas, Gamboa went to work and was pummeling Collins along the ropes in round five when the ref stepped in and ended this Cinderella story.

Featherweight- Fifth Round (Rematch)
Marco Antonio Barrera 73-13-2 (53) vs Eusebio Pedroza 22-1-1 (14)
Pedroza hurt Marco with a hook to the body in the opening round and though Barrera came back to box well over the next three rounds the Panamanian remained focused on the body, it paid dividends when he dropped MAB twice in round eight and again in the tenth before a barrage of shots prompted the stoppage later in round ten. Both finalists from nerd I are eliminated.

Featherweight Sixth Round
(WBA) Salvador Sanchez 24-0 (21) vs Yuriorkis Gamboa 36-8 (23)
Gamboa's incredible speed enabled him to land 2 and 3 punch combos in the first three rounds that left distension around both of the champions eyes. Sal dug in during the fourth and fifth rounds with punishing counters and he had Yuriorkis badly hurt over the final minute of round five when he battered him to the head and body along the ropes. The momentum was all Sanchez in round six as he dug nasty hooks to the Cubans side. Gamboa got on his toes in round seven and and eight and he tagged Sanchez with powerful lefts and rights that had his face disintegrating by the second. Early in round nine a right hand that Sal didn't see buckled his legs and Gamboa swarmed him with a never ending flurry that was bouncing Sal's head around like a pinball and the ref stepped in to give this division yet another huge upset winner! Eder Jofre 50-1 (31) vs (WBO) Robert Guerrero 54-9-1 (30) Guerrero did his best to keep the upset train rolling, using his obvious size advantage to rough up the Brazilian on the inside with uppercuts and body work. Eder staggered Guerrero with a right hand in the fifth and dominated from there until ten straight power shots prompted the stoppage in round seven. (IBF) Abe Attell 23-0-1 (12) vs Wilfredo Gomez 78-12-1 (61) After some technical and even early rounds, Abe used his jab to turn Gomez' right eye into a balloon and he pounded Wilfredo from the tenth round on; dropping Bazooka with an uppercut in the fourteenth and taking a wide UD. 148-137 x3 Sandy Saddler 60-3-1 (49) vs Juan Manuel Marquez 60-3-1 (43) After Marquez controlled the first two rounds with terrific counter-punching they went to war over the next six minutes with Saddler pressing inside and swelling up Juan's left eye with short right hands and uppercuts while Marquez jarred his head back with nasty combinations. After a breather in round five Sandy rocked Juan with a right hand early in the sixth and took him to the woodshed, while the punishment was severe, Marquez seemed to have his senses when the referee stepped in late in the stanza. No doubt we'll hear about this one for a long time. It was (30-7), but I was hoping for more.

Featherweight Sixth Round
(IBO) Willie Pep 38-5-1 (16) vs (WBC) Fighting Harada 71-4 (36)
Once again Pep was faced with a determined foe, but his jab, speed and movement were too much for Harada to overcome. The early rounds were highly competitive but by the midway point the Japanese warriors eyes were swelling and Willie dominated the final third to take another wide UD. 147-137 x2 & 147-139 Eusebio Pedroza 23-1-1 (15) vs Jorge Paez 32-11-2 (12) Euesebio struggled a bit with his awkward rival in the opening rounds but in the fourth and fifth he landed hard hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head. In round seven Jorge opened a nasty cut over Pedroza's left eye. They fought closely until round ten when Eusebio rocked him with a right hand and the Panamanian dominated the final three rounds on his way to an upset SD loss! 115-114 x2 & 114-115, questionably decision aside this is possibly the most unlikely quarter finalist in any of my tourneys. Davey Moore 21-2-2 (14) vs Dick Finnegan 40-3-2 (9) Finnegan suffered a cut over his left eye early in the opening round but it didn't deter him and they fought evenly through six rounds including the vicious third where they traded big right hands several times. In the seventh and eighth Davey landed brutal left hands that staggered Dick and puffed up his right eye, but Finnegan righted his ship and closed strong to secure a just draw. 116-114, 114-115 & 115-115 Kid Chocolate 42-1-1 (19) vs Jem Driscoll 42-1-1 (16) This was a tough fight to handicap but Jim put on another stunning performance, rocking Chocolate three times during a dominant opening round and completely controlling the Kid on the way to an incredibly impressive UD. 119-111 & 118-111 x2

Featherweight Sixth Round (Rematch)
Davey Moore 21-2-3 (14) vs Dick Finnegan 40-3-3 (9)
This was another back and forth battle with both guys scoring heavily from the outset. Round five was flat awesome when Davey hurt Dick twice with right hands and unloaded all he had only to have Finnegan with respond with one combination after another in the final minute of the violent frame (22-19). By the end of round ten both men had swollen features and it was deadlocked on the cards, then, shockingly, thirty seconds into round eleven Moore slipped a jab and landed a murderous right hand that put Finnegan flat on his face where he remained motionless for the ten count.

Featherweight- Quarter Finals
(WBA) Yuriorkis Gamboa 37-8 (24) vs Jem Driscoll 43-1-1 (16)
Jim set the tone early with his rapier jab and deft defense, Gamboa bounced back with some hard right hands in round five and he was cleaning Driscoll's clock in the sixth until he walked into a counter hook that dropped the Cuban for a nine count late in the stanza. Gamboa shrugged it off and rocked Jem early in round seven with a right hand, several more rights had his left eye ballooning when Yuri ripped a hook to the body that folded up the Welshman like a tent and gave Gamboa another upset stoppage win when Jim couldn't beat the count. (WBO) Eder Jofre 51-1 (32) vs Davey Moore 22-2-3 (15) Jofre, determined to become the first multiple division winner, was razor sharp in the early going and he had Davey's left eye badly swollen by round six. In the eighth Moore staggered the Brazilian with a hook and he unloaded everything he had in a violent round in favor of the Springfield Rifle (2-30). From that point on they engaged in a tactical battle, but the superiority of Jofre was always evident and he win the UD. 147-137, 146-138 & 145-139 (IBF) Abe Attell 24-0-1 (12) vs Jorge Paez 33-11-1 (12) After a slow opening round, Abe ended Paez' unlikely run early in round two when a searing counter hook dropped the Mexican like he had been shot and Jorge couldn't beat the count. Sandy Saddler 61-3-1 (50) vs (IBO & WBC) Willie Pep 39-5-1 (16) They swapped the first two rounds with Sandy dominating the opening round with nasty body shots and Pep taking the second with stern jabs and movement. In round three Saddler floored Willie with a nasty uppercut for an eight count and he hammered Pep over the final minute of the round with a barrage of blows to the body and head. After a big fourth round from Saddler, Pep gained command and fired off brilliant combos as Sandy struggled to corner his rival. Saddler staggered Pep in the tenth with a hard right hand but Willie maintained control over the proceedings and down the stretch his movement and combinations were too much for Saddler and Pep took the well earned UD. 145-139, 144-139 & 142-141

Featherweight- SemiFinals
(WBA) Yuriorkis Gamboa 38-8 (25) vs (IBO & WBC) Willie Pep 40-5-1 (16)
Pep flashed his dazzling defense and footwork, along with a steady jab, to dominate the first two rounds. Early in round three Gamboa staggered Willie with a right hand and jumped in with a lunging hook that put Pep down for an eight count, Yuri connected with several punishing blows over the remainder of the round but he wasn't able to finish the job. Pep got right back to business and his lead right hands had Gamboa's left eye badly swelling by the end of round five, in the tenth with his eye nearly closed Gamboa suffered a brutal cut over his other eye after a counter hook from Pep and the fight was promptly stopped due to the facial damage ending a tremendous run from the Cuban. (WBO) Eder Jofre 52-1 (32) vs (IBF) Abe Attell 25-0-1 (13) After a tactical opening round, Abe got his jab working in the second and late in round three a beautiful three punch combo put Jofre down for a seven count. After that things settled down, but, with the exception of rounds nine and ten when the Brazilian connected with hard left hooks and right hands, Attell maintained control and he ended Eder's hopes of being the first multi-division tourney winner with a comprehensive UD. 148-136, 146-137 & 146-138

I was pulling for him too, last tourney Pep beat him like 14-1. When Gamboa dropped Willie in the third I was up on my seat, that would have been an insane run to the finals.

Featherweight Final
(IBO, WBA & WBC) Willie Pep 41-5-1 (17) vs (WBO & IBF) Abe Attell 26-0-1 (13)
These two master boxers felt each other out in the opening round, predominantly using their jabs and Willie had the edge until the the closing moments when a straight right opened a gash on Pep's forehead. They fought evenly over the next three rounds but in round five Abe took command with several clean lead right hands to score the first dominant round of the bout. Both men struggled to penetrate the prodigious defenses of their rivals but Willie scored with sharp combinations during a strong seventh round. Abe bounced back in round eight with lead right hands that reopened Willie's cut. The 'Will O Wisp' dazzled in round nine with a constant stream of combos that caused distension on both of Attell's eyes. Round ten was more of the same and Pep's jabs and hooks had the slight swelling on Abe's right eye rapidly worsening. Pep continued to put his punches together and build a lead in rounds eleven and twelve. Feeling desperate, Attell pressed the action in round thirteen and kept it tight with hard right hands. In round fourteen, Abe continued to be more aggressive and he was doing well when he ducked into an uppercut and Willie launched a 4 punch combo that landed flush and put Attell down for the count and gave Pep an emphatic victory.

Jr Lightweight- First Round
138 Fighters
Defending Champion: Manny Pacquiao Jackie Beard 23-16-4 (8) vs Eddie Hopson 12-8 (1) Beard used Hopson's speed against him and after some tough early rounds his right hand leads dominated the proceedings and Kronk exulted with a clear UD. 98-92 x2 & 97-94 Silverio Ortiz 10-9-1 (2) vs Jorge Barrios 14-5-1 (8) Barrios struggled at times when Ortiz used his jab and movement to momentarily befuddle his rival, but the powerful right hands of Barrios proved more crucial and after rocking Silverio with one early in round seven a barrage of blows led to the ref stepping in. David Santos 11-8-1 (4) vs Daniel Attah 3-17 (1) This was a dreadful bout, with a whole lot of nothing happening, but the judges sided with Attah by SD. 96-94 & 94-96 x2 Paul Jorgensen 10-10 (3) vs Carlos Hernandez 13-6-1 (6) This was give and take until round nine when Paul floored Carlos with a hook to the body for a nine count and he controlled the final round too, only to hear the officials give the SD to Hernandez. 95-94 x2 & 96-94 Carlos Gerena 9-10-1 (4) vs Johnny Verderosa 10-10 (4) This turned intg a brawl, Verderosa dropped Carlos with a right hand in round six and seemed to have control of the bout when Gerena scored two knockdowns in the final round and that enabled him to escape with a tight UD. 95-93 & 94-93 x2

You never know, it will be a while before I get to the third tournaments. My data base is going to be sick for that one, added divisions for so many fighters.

Jr Lightweight- First Round
Tae-Jin Moon 9-10-1 (5) vs Rocky Juarez 23-16-3 (12)
Moon was much more active, firing off 2 and 3 punch combos throughout the contest, but Rocky landed the harder blows and his heavy hooks ballooned and cut Tae-Jin's right eye. In the end neither fighter seized command enough for the victory and we were left with a fair draw. 95-96 & 95-95 x2 Carl Johanneson 10-9-1 (6) vs Argenis Mendez 13-5-2 (10) Carl tossed heavy combos in the first two rounds that had both of the Dominicans eyes swelling, but Argenis turned it around in round three and he scored a nasty one punch knock out with a thunderous right hand in round four. Ricardo Arredondo 13-7 (9) vs Hikaru Tomonori 8-10-2 (3) Tomonori boxed well at times but the Mexicans power advantage was obvious and he dropped Hikaru with a right in round three and put him down for the count with another cross in the ninth. Juan Carlos Salgado 10-10 (3) vs Johnny Bizzarro 25-12-3 (3) Bizzaro brushed off a badly swollen left eye and a second round knockdown to thoroughly out-box Salgado over the final seven rounds. The close scores were shocking, but at least Johnny advanced with the MD. 96-94, 95-94 & 95-95 Daniel Londas 11-9 (5) vs Svein Erik Paulsen 12-6-2 (3) Paulsen used his jab to control Londas in a less than thrilling contest, but Svein advanced nonetheless with a sound UD. 98-92 x2 & 97-93

Jr Lightweight- Second Round
Manny Pacquiao 153-15-3 (139) vs Svein Erik Paulsen 13-6-2 (3)
Manny set the tone by dropping Paulsen in the opening round with a barrage of blows and he continued to hammer Paulsen until the bout was stopped in round three. Azumah Nelson 41-2 (33) vs Johnny Bizzarro 26-12-3 (3) Bizzarro's jab left Nelson with a swollen round after three rounds, but he used his powerful blows to open a cut over Johnny's right eye and nearly close his left before flooring him twice in round eight, the second time for the count with a vicious combo. Alexis Arguello 78-6 (69) vs Ricardo Arredondo 14-7 (10) Alexis used his pinpoint combinations to carve up the Mexicans face before dropping him with a right hand in round eight and forcing the stoppage moments later with three brutal uppercuts that left Arredondo out on his feet. Ben Villaflor 20-0 (7) vs Argenis Mendez 14-5-2 (11) The top seeds continued to dominate as Villaflor used his speed and combination punching to out-point his largely defensive foe with a clear UD. 98-92, 98-93 & 97-93 Sandy Saddler 61-4-1 (50) vs Rocky Juarez 24-16-4 (12) Juarez' iron chin kept him standing, with the exception of a knock down off of a body shot in round nine, and he kept it competitive with hard counter hooks but Sandy was in control throughout and won the wide UD. 99-91 x2 & 98-92 Floyd Mayweather, Jr. 95-3-2 (54) vs Carlos Gerena 10-10-1 (4) Floyd did anything he wanted to Gerena and after flooring him late in round five with an uppercut he unloaded early in the sixth with both hands to force the ref's hand. Edwin Valero 36-4 (27) vs Carlos Hernandez 14-6-1 (6) Valero had a huge opening round and his powerful left hands had Carlos' right eye already swelling after three minutes. Hernandez smothered his rivals power and got things going, including a huge fifth round where he hurt Edwin twice with right hands. Valero bounced back in the sixth with crushing left hands, but Hernandez continued to forge forward and despite suffering a nasty gash over his right eye in round eight he managed to escape with the upset, and controversial, SD. 95-94 x2 & 94-95 Julio Cesar Chavez 71-6-3 (51) vs Daniel Attah 4-17 (1) Attah put forth a game effort, but JCC broke him down to the body and finished him with three knockdowns in round eight for the automatic stoppage.

Jr Lightweight- Second Round
Hector Camacho 74-22-4 (26) vs Jorge Barrios 15-5-1 (9)
Hector was indeed 'Macho', drilling Barrios with blinding combos from the opening bell. He floored Jorge in the second with a hook and had his right eye rapidly swelling when the ref stopped the slaughter in round four. Jose Luis Castillo 85-16-2 (53) vs Jackie Beard 24-16-4 (8) This was another blow out, Jose pounded his body with hooks in the first two round before laying Jackie out for the count in round three with a combination. Joel Casamayor 38-1-1 (20) vs Carlos Ivan Velasquez 10-8-2 (8) Carlos had his moments in the first half of the bout, scoring with sharp one-twos, but Joel got nasty down the stretch and pounded the Puerto Rican in tight, closing his left eye and winning the solid UD. 97-93 x2 & 96-94 Roger Mayweather 49-9-2 (32) vs Takahiro Ao 30-10-1 (11) Mayweather scored with punishing right hands from the beginning and he dropped Ao in the third and caused the stoppage in round six when he was tattooing Takahiro in the corner. Kid Chocolate 42-2-1 (19) vs Joey Gamache 22-16-2 (5) This was a total mismatch, the Cuban dropped Gamache in the first and knocked him out cold with a sizzling hook in round two. Flash Elorde 37-3 (21) vs Vicente Mosquera 11-6-3 (1) Elorde's speedy combinations made a bloody, swollen, mess of Vicente's face, but he managed to last the distance and even hurt Gabriel with a right hand in the ninth round. Elorde took the wide UD, but he had to work for it. 100-91, 99-92 & 98-92 Chan Ka Kui 41-3-1 (21) vs Orlando Zulueta 22-16-6 (4) These styles did not mesh at all, the speed of Kui allowed him to land more frequently and he earned the UD, but it was far from impressive. 98-93, 98-94 & 96-95 Yuriorkis Gamboa 38-9 (25) vs Ricky Lyons 11-9 (4) They traded violently in the first two rounds and Lyons buckled Gamboa's legs twice with counter right hands. This backed Yuri off and he switched tactics to hit and move and it enabled him to escape with the SD. 98-94, 95-96 & 96-95

Jr Lightweight- Second Round
Rocky Lockridge 37-6 (26) vs Jong-Kwon Baek 11-9 (7)
Lockridge used his right hand to close up Baek's eye and he dropped him twice before forcing the stoppage late in round six with a barrage of blows.
