Spring Training: Change Start Date Option

I believe Spring Training is hard-coded to start in early March. But what if your league is in Australia? A true major league there would play, what, October to March/April? They need spring training starting in August/September.

As for me, I'm contemplating a short major league season in a country with a start date of May 1. Early March spring training would be far too early. I'd need an April 1 start.

So how about adding an option to allow the player to choose either going with an early March default start, or changing the start date to a date of his choosing? Ninety percent of games will ignore this, but the other 10% will be grateful for the option. That's thousands of gamers right there.

EDIT: I see upon further review that the game can automatically adjust spring training start based on your season start date when creating the game. If your league evolves with changing start dates, though, this won't help you. But I guess most leagues won't. So, never mind.

It would be nice to customize the length of one's spring training period. A short-season league doesn't need a four-week-long training season. I've suggested allowing the user to select the length of the spring training schedule in terms of weeks, with the choices ranging from one week long up to six weeks long. (MLB currently has a five-week spring training period, though in earlier years it was six weeks.)

ST will be played for a month prior to the start of the leagues season. I had ABL I also have one other winter league. I also have a NFL league they all had spring training. Did you not check the ST option? Am i wrong about this?

The most I have ever done with changing start dates was when I moved from a 162 to 168 game schedule (4 seasons into my game), and started typically on the last Friday in March. This brought the start of Spring Training to the last week in February, rather than early March as it had been before.

I therefore assumed that OOTP calculated it a certain number of days in advance of Opening Day, and that as one changed so the other would change with it. However, the option to set the duration manually would be great - I would definitely welcome more choice in customising the spring schedule.

That's not the case. I have an Ausi league I run with regular season starting 1 Jan. ST is in Dec. OOTP sets ST according to when your schedule starts, not always in March.

I see now I was completely confusing Spring Training with Preseason.

I appreciate the patience in explaining this out. Thanks, everyone.

Pre season isn't hard coded either, it moves according to your schedule.

No worries, better to ask lots of questions and get some understanding than to ask none and come away empty handed.

Yeah a four week spring training when my league is only two months long is ridiculous.

You can manually eit the ST games. I do this in my NHL, NBA & NFL leagues. My NFL one is easy as I delete all non Sunday games. So 4 weeks of ST, 4 games. When my EBL league had just 4 AL 4 NL teams i would edit the ST schedule and delete all but the last 8 games of ST. But yes would be nice not only to edit the length of ST but the opponents to try to have an actual Catcus or Grapefruit league.
