Performance v talent
Let me start by saying I know even in real life talent does not always indicate performance. However I did a "fantasy" draft to begin my league and ended up drafting a rather stacked to the point of ridiculously talented line up. But guys like Miguel Cabrera, Albert Pujols and Dustin Pedroia, to name a few all seem to be living below the Mendoza line. Does this happen often in 14? It seems unlikely that a line up that 1-7 lacks a weak spot and that has so much power would be near the bottom in runs and HRs for an extended part of the season.

It could be any number of things but I've found that some players have preferred spots in the lineup. So sometimes loading up on power sounds great, but players don't like being put in the lower third of the lineup, if a roster is stacked. They can actually perform worse. It's better to have a more balanced lineup with stars and average players.
You can view how good your players are in different spots in the lineup if you click on a player go to batting splits and scroll down. |

Define "extended part of the season." Could just be a collectively slow start or slump. I really hope this is what's happening in the current season in my Astros game (not nearly so stacked, but NOBODY is hitting of note).
Not to mention, the game doesn't know it's "Miguel Cabrera". The game just knows it's a collection of numbers with the entry "Miguel Cabrera" in the Name field. |

Miggy and other high number guys may be victims of OOTP's statistical distribution being broader than real life. Home runs, doubles, stolen bases even BA are good across the league but the differences between average good and bad not big enough (bell curve?). Just some thoughts.

If you look at the numbers in the league options it list the number of homeruns, etc that will be hit during the season, and as other people have noted, the game uses math to balance out the results. This balancing act may alter the stats so they differ from real life, which could help explain your results.
Additionally, when you compare the league numbers against the historical average how do they fare? If you are within 1% of the norm then you just got an unlucky roll of the dice.

thank you for the feedback guys. i appreciate it. had not considered the math of the league stats as a factor. it makes a lot of sense. i basically considered my team and not how the computer would decide such a thing.
