No champion
I am still playing OOTPBB 12 but I am posting this here because I am considering upgrading to 2014 and wonder if I can transfer my league and wondering if I will have the same problem with the new game.
I started a 4 team fictional historic league and created everything from the teams to the players names and even manually created the schedule. I even write my own stories as the season progresses. But at the end of the first season, there was no champion listed in the history and even though there were no games left the leader had a magic number of 18. I checked the schedule multiple times and there were no remaining games. Mostly I am scared that I will lose the players and the stories I created more than the stats...especially if i upgrade in the midst of this mess. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thank you! |

League history gets updated on Dec 31/ Jan 1, when the year rolls over.
Two days after your play-offs end, the champion will show in the history section. You can transfer your league, but will have to go from 12 to 13 to 14. You can download the Demo of 13 to do the conversion. |

Well if you're still playing OOTP12, are you running the latest patch version of 12? Because there was a well known problem with earlier revisions of OOTP12 where no champion was named listed:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ons-blank.html I can't explain the magic number thing, and this might not be your issue, but it's worth mentioning. The latest patchlevel of OOTP12 (that I remember) is 12.5.46. I'm pretty sure that's the patch that fixed the blank WS champion issue, so if you're using any version lower than that, this might be your problem. Also, I'm not sure you'd be able to convert your league straight from OOTP12 to OOTP14 - I'll let someone else answer that question. Last edited by hefalumps; 10-19-2013 at 10:42 PM. |

No, you can't. What you can do is download the OOTP13 demo, import your league to '13 through that, and then import that league to '14.

The only reason i am still on 2012 is because of my extreme lack of time to invest in gaming. But I still love the product and I still have a soft spot in my heart for my Mississippi Steamboat League and the characters I have created for it. I will certainly buy the newest version if i can figure out how to transfer the current players. I mean it is a bit sad but I know these guys all too well and I'm not so worried about maintaining the stats as I am in keeping them. |

Well I figured out a few things. The reason there was still a magic number of 18 is because I had the schedule set at 68 games even though my manually created schedule is only 48 games.
And the reason the season won't end is because the game is still listed as in preseason even though I just played a 48 game schedule of regular season games. Is it because I created my own schedule? I'm attempting to salvage my hard work but I will probably just scrap it, buy ootp 14 and move on. But I would like to avoid the same problem from happening in 14! |

Well, the only advice I can offer when doing a customized league like that is backup, backup, and backup! Here's what I recommend:
After you're done creating the league and going through the whole setup wizard, make a quickstart of it. Will save you a little time if you have to scrap the whole thing and start over. You can also do an in-game backup before you advance a day. Before any critical point of the year (preseason, spring training, regular season, All-Star Break, postseason, offseason), make an in-game backup. And to go a step further, I'd zip up that folder (default location is in the backups\YourLeagueName.lg folder in your OOTP data folder) and name it something meaningful like "YourLeagueName-1950-begin-preseason". That way, you'll be able to roll back to any major turning point in a season if you encounter an issue. And of course, it's not a bad idea to copy those ZIP files to an external drive after you're done so you have them in two places. Obviously as your league grows, the zip backup begins to get rather large (especially if you save replays, almanacs, etc.), so you kind of have to tweak the process to what makes sense for you and your system. Good luck with OOTP14 - I think you'll really like it! |

Will there be any problems if a league's playoffs go past Dec. 31st?

I've got a 70 team playoff and the tie breaker games take for ever plus there's all these unnecessary days off. My season usually runs till late December. It will be interesting too see what happens if it does go into the next year.

I'd be very concerned. The game does several things related to a "finished year" in the transition from Dec 31 to Jan 1. Even if you don't have an almanac, several csv files are dumped and players are re-rated and re-evaluated.
I'd recommend a complete backup, perhaps weekly in December to keep other options open. Why don't you edit the playoff schedule to eliminate off days.

My Triple A league is about a week ahead of my Major League so there shouldn't be a problem with that league, If things get really tight towards the end of the year,I could schedule double-headers(I guess that would work ok). I originally had a problem with the schedule changing start dates after I had already edited the schedule,so the league's started about a week later than normal. I was able to eliminate the last two days of my Major League regular season by moving games to other dates.
Only time will tell how many tie-breaker games will be needed. |

You should have those teams play on December 31st for some sort of Grand Champions Cup.
Anyhoo I like your league. it sounds like a fun idea. And here's me with my little 4 team Mississippi Steamboat League in 1866 :P We plan to grow though! |
