Names and nicknames

If you use a name or nickname not in the game will it remember it and used when creating new players?
For example I gave a player the nickname "Pimp-The-Box" a few seasons later I noticed a minor league player with the same nickname. What are the odds the game already had that nickname in the system?

I had noticed the same thing in one of my games and assumed they were added to the database - having looked around the names/nicknames I have added seem to be at the very end of names.dat in the saved game folder, so I guess they must be available for use at random in that game.

One else has used it. So that's what's confusing it only nicknames that it remembers and reuses?

Yes, any names or nicknames you manually create will get added to the database, and the game may randomly choose one of them for new players.

How will it know what orgin it is if it's a uncommon name?

Only for that league/world though. They aren't added to the names/nicknames files in the database txt files.

You can add any names yourself though to these files, and then they will apply to any league you create from then on.

For the OP - they are found in the OOTP14/Data/Database file. Just open the appropriate txt file and add any names/nicknames you want to make them permanent.

But how would it know to assign a certain name
To only Latinos or only Chinesse ect?

I don't profess to know a lick about how the game's coded, but my guess is it might be based on whatever nationality the edited player is.

Yes, it has to do with ethnicities, the World.XML, what Country your league is based in, what countries players are pulled from for the draft. I don't know how he does it, but it works.
