Eventually, my business came around to the question of "Do I upgrade to Windows 8.1 or not?" I am very conservative concerning computers and operating systems, adhering to the philosophy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I was looking into whether there could be a custom taskbar icon that would call up the Start Screen instead of having to dive my mouse into the lower left corner (and usually clicking the first taskbar icon by mistake). I googled the topic, and came up with a page on which one of the links was colored "already visited." What? Oh, it's that StartIsBack thing that I looked at previously. Well, what the heck. Let me take a closer look. I am glad I did. Listen, I will not bore people by telling them about the program; go take a look for yourself or see the attached list of features. I am flabbergasted at how well this works. Pleased is not even the word. Here's the kicker. I am NOT upgrading to Windows 8.1. I don't need to. My laptop works just the way I want it to now and I have the best of both worlds: Windows 7 Start Menu AND, at the top of that menu, a button for Start Screen on which I now have only some "modern" apps. Cool. I'm locking this down. This is it for the duration of this piece of equipment.
