Scouting Reports
Only a very minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but I would like to see summary scouting reports for veteran players take the stage of their career into account a bit more.
In my fictional league I have a former two-time batter of the year and multiple all-star dismissed as "doesn't have the skill set to have any kind of career", when he has already had a fantastic career. There is also the former single-season home run record holder described as looking like a "career minor-leaguer" when for a number of years he was one of the best players in the majors. The players in question are now 37 and 38 respectively, so for the sake of realism it would be nice to have the summary report indicate a once great player now well past his best, rather than implying a player who will never make it at all. |

Yeah, the game's scouting reports understand "prospect" status, but not "veteran" status. Once a player gets to an advanced age and his skills start to decline, the scouting reports evaluate him on his current skills only. Considering that we already have prospect status working correctly, it doesn't seem like it would be overly difficult to implement the same kind of thing for older players.
You don't even have to take past stats into account. Just something simple, like: "Jenkins is well past his prime, and shouldn't be playing on a major league roster any longer." Or: "The only reason to stick with Simmons now is loyalty; he just can't play." |
