Stamina Drop
I just had one of my star pitchers return from a 10 month stint on DL (torn rotator cuff) and his stamina dropped from 72 to 29. This effectively would make him my closer.
Would it be cheap for me to raise his stamina close to pre-injury? I've never seen this happen before. |

It's your game but I wouldn't. Just make it a cool story in your league's history and see if he becomes an elite closer for the rest of his career.

Ugh that sucks.... I just got Chris Sale and on his 4th start he got big shoulder injury that will keep him out 13-14 month.... I guess he's done as a SP.....

Did you send him on a rehab stint? I'd be curious to see if he gets any kind of stamina bump after maybe 20-30 innings on a rehab stint.

What makes this worse is he a free agent after this year and he was wanting like 16 mil per year for 6 years. Now, I might let him walk and get a pick or two.

Hmmm, I haven't dealt with that specific type of situation. I'd probably either pitch him in spring training to see if his stamina goes up, or leave him on the DL until the season starts, then send him on rehab for the month of April to see what happens. But it sounds like he's a guy who's important to your team, so maybe you don't have that luxury.

I might just bite the bullet and put him as my full-time closer now. Or I could try and trade him for a group of prospects. I probably won't re-sign him anyways.

I had this happen to me recently and the injury that caused it was a strained back that had the player out 3 weeks. His stamina dropped to 2 / 20 when it was 15 / 20 before. He was the ace of my staff and now was just a reliever. Couldn't believe it.

Weirdest thing just happened. I simmed until March 1st and I have it give scouting updates every month and now the pitcher has 71 stamina. I dunno if it's a bug or what, but I love it!!
(before you all ask, I did NOT change it back. I was going to give him a shot in ST to see how he would do) |

He's still a starter - look at his suggested role below his Stamina rating. Anyone with Stamina 25/100 or higher can start if he has a good enough repertoire.
And yes, just like in real life, injuries can affect Stamina, sometimes severely. So just as John Smoltz or Kerry Wood or any number of other pitchers have been forced into relief roles because of injury in real life, some SPs will need to move to the bullpen because of a severe injury in OOTP. You got lucky with Esquivel; he preserved just enough Stamina to stay in the rotation. |

Not necessarily. In my experience it is much less common for a starter to lose stamina after a long injury than it is for them to keep it.
