Expansion Creation

Quick question
Want to expand a league and wondering what part of the year it is best done

a- right after the season before the free agency which could problems for who is available for expansion draft

b- right after the free agents are released so the expansion team can bid

c- january or feb after main free agents signed to make the existing teams choose their protected lists better

thanks for the suggestions

I usually wait till January(If I have an expansion draft). If I decide not to have a a draft,I expand as soon as the season ends.

FWIW, in a dynamically evolving league, the expansion draft happens right after the Rule 5 draft (in which the expansion teams participated).

i usually dont have the rule 5 on, what date would that be on

I have expanded my EBL league 4 times now. I always do it the 1st day of Free Agency in December? This way they dont have any FA to be on their roster and it is a day or 2 before my Ammy draft.I protect between 23-25. Last draft was 25 previous one was 23 (only have AAA) Also gives the expansion teams a chance to get some good FA. one of my expansion teams is battling for 1st.

When I was running tests for my soon to be created new league, I did expansion the day after the World Series. Each time, OOTP scheduled the expansion draft for the day after the free agents hit the open market.

Really? For some reason I was thinking it would schedule it for a day ro 2 later. The 1st day is the protection list the next the expansion draft. i have always waited until the FA market opens and then since for this league I edit so my Ammy draft list doesn't come out until after so I can edit the players. The draft pool option disappears after one click league expansion and sometimes the edited players disappear, not always though.

The text says that the draft protection lists are due the next day and the draft is the day afterwards. But, that's not when the game actually schedules them.

So, I'm thinking that what it really means is those things are the next day and the day after or they are right after the free agents hit the market, whichever comes later.

I just threw together a test league. I'm expanding the league the day after the World Series had ended. Note that the date is October 25, 2013. The text does say that the protection lists are due tomorrow and the expansion draft is the next day.

Then, the 2nd screenshot shows that the actual lists are due the day after the free agents hit the market and the draft is the day afterwards.
