Vorp

OOTP sets the minimum for automatic Hall of Fame induction at 700. Is this too low, too high or just right?

Would still love to get some opinions on this. I like to have automatic qualifiers, 3000 hits, 500 home runs(1976 environment, so 500 HR's mean something), 300 wins. I raise the other qualifiers to 2800 hits, .300 average and 280 wins, 3.50 ERA. I manually induct guys too, but feel if players reach these qualifiers, they deserve automatic induction.

Not being a stathead, I have no idea what to set the VORP auto qualifier at. Any opinions?

My opinion is that the HOF selection process is crude and someone should fix this.

I don't like that the AI uses VORP at all, so I set mine to a ridiculous amount like 10000 so nobody gets elected based on that.

The rest I go with basically the same as yours, just adjusted down as I play mostly with 126 or 132 game schedules.

Thanks. I was thinking about doing that myself and now I will.

I agree. But, I will always be old school when it comes to 300 wins or 3000 hits. Your getting in if you reach those milestones, period. An auto qualifier for home runs has to be modified to fit ones league, but for me, 500 works. Over 29 seasons, I only have 3 players that have reached 500 bombs. Mantle is my leader at 587. He's active but only in the previously talked about reserve clause sense.

VORP is one of those "statistics" that are meaningful and useful only in comparing one player to another. As a stand-alone stat serving as a benchmark and milestone, especially over time, nope. Same with WAR.

I agree that 300 wins and 3000 hits carry weight throughout the history of MLB, and in any OOTP environment played in a historical ML setting of any era.

In the last 20 years, 3000 strikeouts and 500 HR have lost the mystical quality that 300 wins and 3000 hits still maintain.

Absolutely agree with this.

It's gr8 that we have OOTP so 500 HR's and 3000 K's can still mean something, even if only in our own little baseball worlds.
