Exclamation Is anyone weird as me???

Ever since I was 14 I was a huge hockey fan. So my ever NHL game I purchased I would create my own self and start up a franchise. So whst is weird about this? Well I like to micromanage my franchise. So I would grab a booklet of lined paper and start writing stats down from the begining of my season to the offseason. Things I would write down would be fights in the game, lines, roster, trades, released players, free agent signings, and ofcourse end of season final stats. Then in the offseason I would write down the trophy winners, retired players from my team, resigning of players and progression of my whole roster. Also ofcourse qll the nhl draft picks for my team. I would keep tabs on everything year after year. To this day I am 34 and I have a son on the way my first. I still write down stats. Does anyone else do that?

I have done stuff of this nature and am 33. We probably all have weird things we do that others don't get. I have been made fun of plenty for this type of stuff.

Your just crazy, bro.

Okay, I do similar things. Tell no one

That's why I would love to see the game document everything so there is no more need to write anything down, or take screenshots.

I would create myself and my buddies. I've been known to create myself and just my brother these days for a little friendly competition. Of course my player always ends up better.

(By the way, I used to write down fictional player stats on a piece of paper and create their careers from age of 17 to their retirement...I've done every scenario I could think of....now, that's weird! That's why I would kill to have control over a players career, to see their shortlist of free agent offers and select for the odd player and control his destiny. Then I wouldn't seem like a psycho writing down fake stats on a paper; I would get to do that in a pc game )

I think we are all alittle weird playing these games, some more than others. But no one is here to judge...we already have enough people in our lives to do that. I personally try and convert them. I'm worst than jehovah's witness

I think I can possibly be the "weird" one here guys...

Way back when I was in high school (currently I'm 31.. going to be 32 in early Oct... I believe hockey season starts on my bday).... anyways.. I had a few friends who would all choose teams and we'd get together and create ourselves in the latest NHL game at the time and there was one player at the time that I really wanted... Pavel Bure.. As I had an amazing first line and wanted him to cap things off for me... My best friend (at the time) had him.. So I kept tossing offers his way anytime I seen him and at times I'd goto school with half a page of guys I would trade for him...

So one day he turned to me and said "so you want Bure huh ?" naturally I said to him "hell yes I want him" he decided to toss a deal my way a deal he didn't think I would go for... as he simply told me "pay me $5 and you can have him" without thinking twice I pulled out $5 and gave it to him...

Back in the day whrn EA Sports still made decent games me and my brother played NHL 97 madly, actually it was what brought up my interest in the NHL. Living in Germany an internet still not commonplace i was reading video/teletext on CNN and tried to figure out real life trades by the short game reports and news there etc.

I also remember buying a card for internet use in a local electronics store just to ge tonline and vote for the all star game, man internet was such a special thing back then . :-D

Was funny when the Sakic offersheet happened and me being New york andmy brother colorado always and the concept of RFA etc not known to me i rea dinto it via CNN Sakic wa son the Rangers now, MY brother was so pissed and me even more when i ahd to send him backl :-D

Also we had stat sheets printed out with custom made graphics that where on our wall behind the PC, Cup winners, scoring leaders, etc.

Those were the days.

Damn NHL 97 was so bad ass , the music, the steel mill grahic design concept, the player videos, jsut awesome. also i think there was a time when i Lafontaine , Gretzky, and Messier wer eon the Rangers at teh same time back then or it was just me screwing up my teletext researcha gain :-D I also remember Brian Skrudland being a good player in the game haha. Wow and they had golaie masks gallery, i still remeber the buzzign sound of lightnings on the screen when you switched through the rotable masks, from Beezzer to Belfour.

I am happy to hear that I am not alone. Loved hearing all of your stories. I miss the times when we all had less responsibilities were we can all skip school and play the **** out NHL, NBA, MLB and Madden. Keep it up guys with your stories love reading them. I wish there was a game that tracked everything. Sure as hell would save me time writing down stats. Currently playing NBA 2k13. Just started season with raptorz. Currently playing World of Mixed Martial arts also. Also Fallout 3, TEW 14 and soon going to buy aFootball manager and set up my NFL expansion team.

I still have scrap books full of newspaper clippings from the 50's and 60's. The only hockey news we got growing up in Halifax was through the newspaper and weekend sports edition on TV. I used to save every score sheet from the play-offs back then. Tons of old articles on Richard, Howe, Hull, and many others.

Ahh, reminds me of playing the crap out nhlpa 93. It was the first game with real players, but you couldn't trade.

I had this notebook I would keep where I created a schedule for the league and would play the hole team in each game. After the game I would write the scoring summary and penalty summaries in the notebook as well as goalie stats. That was a lot of work, but I got even crazier with trades. When someone in real life got traded, I had a section in the notebook who that person replaced.

For instance, say Doug Smail got traded in real life for Peter Zezel, I would enter in the notebook that any time Zezel scores in the game, it would really be Doug Smail. Lol. That was nuts.

Real life

While I certainly like to peruse my stats - love the almanac feature in OOTP, I've never really done it manually for a video game. I used to run a super involved keeper pool and logged all that kind of data in a yearly "yearbook" for our pool. One year, I was in a major car accident and was off work for 6 months - during that time I made a player guide which had a detailed stats history and complete trade and draft history for our pool (including retired and released players). I was a massive tome.
On another note, back in the day (40 something here) when games didn't cover all the stats and the local paper didn't have boxscores for every game (I don't live in an NHL city) I used to watch games and record everything live (shots, faceoffs won, hits, etc..) on specially designed pages I created myself.
That's why I love sims like EHM and OOTP. Love those stats!!

When I was younger, my brother and I had a nice table hockey set (the very same one as this: Vintage Leafs: Table Hockey!). We only had two teams, Montreal and Toronto.

Of course, that wasn't enough, especially since we didn't like either team. So, I drew players on paper (back and front) for all the NHL teams, coloured them and cut them. I took the regular NHL schedule of that year and undertook to play all the games of the season with my brother on our table (with 3 x 5 min. periods). For every game of the schedule, we'd place the players over the Montreal or Toronto player with scotch tape, play the game, note the goals and assists as the game unfolded, then note the final score. Once the game was over, we'd remove the paper players, then place those of the next two teams, then play the game, and so on. We got tired of it before November in the schedule, though.
