No problem, that's always a good question to ask when it comes to Microsoft. Yes, I just got a new laptop last week, Windows 8 of course (), and no problems running OOTPB. I don't know about Windows 8.1, though - we'll have to wait and see. [I'm debating over whether to upgrade or not, myself. I always try to weigh the supposed benefits with the undiscussed risks.]

By the way, since I have your attention, and this has been griping me, and I need an outlet: Microsoft and its Windows suck.

Latest gripe: Not Windows 8 and the cumbersome Start screen, believe it or not. I did not like it at first and I still don't, but I find that I can live with it.

No, this time it's Office 2013 which was designed to work with Windows 8, which in turn was designed for TABLETS. You know, those tiny screened devices that you are supposed to tap and swipe with your grimy fingers? Want to zoom? Flick your fingers and watch the image either do nothing or get too large. Yeah, that experience.

Well, aside from making Office 2013 look bland, monotone, and blocky to suit tablet displays, they also did this:
Quote:
why the fonts in word 2013 are blurry?
rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible! Will Microsoft change it?
This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.
What is going on?
IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...
Quote:
I would think that you might have a Graphics Driver issue. Check on the manufacturer's website for an updated driver.
Quote:
It is NOT a graphics card driver issue. It is a flaw in both the Office 2013 and Internet Explorer 10 programs, and don't let Microsoft convince you otherwise. Here is the best explanation I've found:

Blurry Text in Windows 8 - Microsoft Community

I'm using Firefox and trying to figure out how to downgrade back to Office 2010 until the issues are resolved.
And the guy who really knew his stuff in that thread (from the link above):
Quote:
The cause for Office, Modern UI and IE10 to look so bad is that they use a new graphics rendering API offered in Windows 8 (and with updates on Windows 7, too).
The new font rendering engine offered by this new API simply doesn't have Clear Type implemented. So unless Microsoft patches this new API to support Clear Type, no program using this API will ever be able to do so.

The reason why Firefox (and Chrome, to an extend) are able to use Clear Type is because they still rely on the old Windows font-rendering API.

This is a bad decision by Microsoft, but their reasoning behind that (from what i think) is also quite clear: It is based on the assumption that their future will be in the tablet market. Since ClearType only works in one direction (horizontally, that is), it is totally useless if you rotate the tablet. The other thing is animation: if you animate a Clear Type anti-aliased font, its boundaries will start to flicker. And since Modern UI is a lot about animations and transitions, this would offer a bad experience.

Last thing is the much higher ppi (pixels per inch) offered by tablet screens (>200ppi) in respect to computer monitors (mostly <=120ppi), where grayscale-anti aliasing is totally sufficient for crisp fonts.
And the worst thing: the Surface has a display with only 148ppi! So fonts look crappy on their reference design tablet.

The bad thing is: no one can help you with the font rendering problem. You're on your own, as a consumer. For me that meant to downgrade back to Office 2010, ignoring Modern UI and all apps completely and ditching IE 10 (but hey, that's a no-brainer, isn't it?).
Typical Microsoft arrogance. I did what this fellow did, thank goodness. I am all right for now . . . until the next time my equipment goes the planned obsolescence route and Microsoft again acts like the monolithic beast that it is.

End of rant. Sorry to have sidetracked this thread.

I would say upgrade to 8.1. I am just using the preview and its worth it. I dont hate windows 8 but i like that 8.1 has a start button with control panel, event viewer, task manager and other applications there. I like that i can boot to desktop. I can shut down from the start button. Im not sure if it was in windows 8 but i can resize and organize the icons on the start screen.

Guys: get StartIsBack for Windows 8.

StartIsBack - real start menu in Windows 8

"StartIsBack returns Windows 8 a real fully featured start menu and start button, behaving exactly like the ones in Windows 7."

It makes Windows 8 perfectly acceptable.

Free trial!

fortunately when I got my new laptop I had the option to choose Windows 7 over Windows 8.

Not that I am really a Windows 8 hater, I just wasnt in the mood to deal with a new user interface, the new office gui looked horrible, so I figured go with what I know, especially so since I have my laptop talking to my desktop quite a bit.

Smart moved, Cras ... even though, W8 is okay for the Media world ... and yet, I disabled most of these UIs ... just wished I had the option, like you, to choose from ...

Yes, with Patch 14.3 I was able to; now no problem in full screen. I'm going to stick with it until the others are more stable.

Thank you for asking.

Now I just gotta find out how to play this great simulation. It's been about 5-6 years since I've been able to sit down and play. The last version I had was OOTP6 or 7, I believe. lol. :/

I'm setting up a fictional league based on most of the MLB teams and the A-AAA teams with some foreign leagues involved this time. Now I'll need help with mods with uniforms and such, lol.

It's the single best thing for Windows 8. It's the only reason I can use Windows 8.

If you use Windows 8, GETSTARTISBACK! Free trial, but you WILL buy it. And it's super cheap.
