My worthless 2 cents worth

Greetings to all moaners, whiners, optimists, and powers that be at OOTP,

I think we can break down the purchasers of this game into 4 groups.

Group One -- The game is awful and I want my money back now! I think everyone should be notified of a place they can go to, to get their money back. I think they deserve it as this product, while many see it's potential, is not ready for prime time. Get them their money now. This way they can just get their money and leave. Although their complaints for the most part are valid, I'm tired of them. The game stinks so lets move on. Quit hammering the lads working on this as I'm sure they are trying. If you don't pay for the game, you have no say. That's fair.

Group Two -- The game is not ready for prime time but full of potential. That's fine. When you find a bug, post it in the proper place. That's it. You don't have to flog a dead horse. If the developers are serious (as I'm sure they are) they will heed the suggestions and fix the bugs as soon as they can. They are not robots on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And I would hate to be them looking at the boards and seeing all the horrible things being said. Be nice, post the bug, and comment on whatever you want other than the bug.

Group Three -- This is my group. The game is awful and I can't say it's full of potential. It might be, but time will tell. If my 40 bucks (or whatever) can help to develop a good hockey sim I have no complaints. I will post the bugs as I see them and hope for the best. If at the end of the day the game gets no better, so what? No one dies. And if it gets better, I for one will be happy. But lets not beat the developers to where they fear to visit this forum. If they want bad news, they can pick up their local newspaper.

Group Four -- Do what you want to me, I support the OOTP franchise no matter what it does or how it does it. These people are usually referred to as "fanboys". So what? Even "fanboys" are entitled to their opinion. And they are laying down their money in this quest for a good game. I'm not going to shoot them. Take their money if it helps the process.

Bottom Line: If you pay your money, post your bugs and suggestions in a nice, polite manner without bashing anyone (Did I really just say that?). If you want your money back as is your right, take it and go away. You can come back when you hear it's a better game more suitable to your needs.

This forum is getting boring and it's just a rehash of the same old, same old. The game is what it is right now and it will change as soon as it can. Let's agree that we have what we have and let the lads do their job to make it better and ready for prime-time.

I guess I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't really touched the game, mainly because there are still so many bugs and unaswered questions...

I've had some fun with the game thought. I boosted all the ratings of my player to 40, so far he has 62 points in 21 games. Seems like his scoring so much, it also seems to have a huge impact on his linemates, who also have around 40 points each.

Very well put! Your two cents were not worthless at all.

I'd put myself in group 2 at the moment. The game is a bit of a hot mess, but I try to look past that and see the potential. Because having a solid, up-to-date hockey sim is important to me. I'm willing to wait patiently while things get worked out.

I've sent cash OOTP's way every year since 2002. It's always been worth it (well, maybe not the first SI version, ehhh ). I look at my money as an investment into the future of the company.

I'd say I am in Group 2. I want a easy to use sim with a custom league option.

I did one season and ran into the "Please draft a Goalie" issue and gave up until it's fixed. Also $8mil of my budget was being used for some reason with 0 players on roster.

But other than that and a few other issues (mainly crashes), the game was fun.

I pre-ordered the game a few months ago, to save $10. I didn't pre-order it to get it right on Sept 3rd. I have patience and can wait. I got plenty of other games to play at the moment anyways. I will be busy playing GTA starting next week and for who knows how long? When I get back, I hope there is a great hockey sim waiting for me. Saving me $10.

Nice post, pretty well sums up what I've seen on this forum so far. There is a fifth, less vocal group...the "Wait and see" crowd. I'm one of those.

We're mostly people who have bought OOTP games before, love them, want to support the developers and all that, but are a little scared away by all the talk of bugs and such. We're waiting until either A) Enough patches have been made to fix the bugs, at least the major ones or B) The price to drop a bit through specials or whatever, so we at least don't have to pay as much for a flawed (so far) game.

I'm kind of waiting for both. Especially the patches. Wouldn't mind a drop to $30 or under, either, though. All-Star break special, maybe, like they do for OOTP Baseball? My patience with flaws grows in inverse proportion to the amount of money spent.

I'm also - and this is just me, can't speak for others, although I can't be the only one - waiting for facegen. Realistic faces and uniforms are half the fun of OOTP for me, so a lack thereof makes me more likely to hold off a bit. That may be included in an upcoming patch, and if it is, my chances of buying the game grow exponentially.

I'm in Group Three. Simming through game nights leaves me cold, and until I can manage a team that plays hockey games that are presented in an entertaining fashion, I'm going to be playing Football Manager and Crusader Kings. The absence of anything to do in the preseason is also an issue (and the preseason was excellent in EHM). I can't get interested enough to get far enough into a game to know if anything else disappoints me.

However, I know this isn't an easy thing to do, I know that nobody else seems to be trying to do it, and I know that you can only spend so much time on development before you have to make some money to fund more development. So I'm happy to have my $30 in the pot and hoping it gets better.

Go team. I'm rooting for you to build this into something special. And maybe I'd have a better feel for how likely that is if I played OOTP, but I'm just not much of a baseball guy.

I for one don't really seem to mind that the game is a work in progress. I don't play a lot but thats because I work and OOTP 14 keeps me busy. I am a die hard hockey fan and would love this sim to be the end all of hockey sims (I own fhl and play STHS games also) but every game has a beginning and this is a beginning.
I will love the day we get to FHL version 14 like OOTP. Until then I support, I play and I wait for the next download.

Thats my opinion.
