Hockey for OOTP
Today I got an email announcment from OOTP that they're coming out with a hockey mgmt. sim. They couldn't handle updating a much less complicated sport in boxing, how will they find the time away from baseball to keep hockey up to date? I can already hear the complaints.
Should be interesting. Cap P.S. when did Canada become part of the USA.? They have the NHL listed under the United States.

This has been a loooooooooooooong time coming with OOTP. I find it kind of surprising you were able to be a regular on this forum and not see the section!
![]() But Markus isn't involved in the Hockey project at all. Sebastian is involved in both, but he basically is to the Hockey sim what Markus is to the Baseball sim (as far as I'm aware). It's a smart business venture as far as I'm concerned, EHM had already proven it was a worthy market before being pirated into oblivion. |

They had/have an open Beta for the hockey and the game is due to be released September 3rd, but as far as I can tell, the game is about 6 months to a year away from being ready for prime time. Of course, when I mentioned how bad it was I got slammed because it's a "beta" but I don't think anyone over there truly understands what beta means. Naturally I wish them all the best because I'd love a good hockey sim that will be along the lines of creating a "what-if" world but I have major doubts as to what will be delivered September 3rd. (Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.) If it comes out reasonably playable then they have pulled a rabbit out of a hat. I was wondering too why the NHL was listed under the U.S. and in the game it's a U.S. league. I remember when Tommy Williams of the Bruins was the only American in the whole league and even with 2/3 of the teams based in the U.S., over 99% of the players were Canadians. Maybe Gordie Howe wasn't really born in Floral, Sask., but in Lansing, Michigan.

I wonder if it's because of this...

Well it may be a little rough around the edges, but I have been tinkering with it and I think it's potential is absolutely amazing. I am excited about this game. The baseball folks don't work on this game as I understand it so it has it's own crew.... That's good.

I'm really looking foreword to this game as a huge hockey fan. I have downloaded it but haven't purchased it yet. I will wait until after the 3rd and see what everyone says before I make a decision whether to purchase now or wait a while. All I can say, I hope its at least close to as good as OOTP Baseball and TBCB games respectively. If so, then I know it will be a must buy and well worth it!
Good luck to them on this venture. |

Im a big saporter of OOTP and all they do Im sure in time this hockey game will be as great as the baseball and boxing.Sure it might be ruff right now but buy the game and help them get better by pointing out what can be improved on. I have yet to see a good hockey sim if anyone knows of any I would like to see so I can compare but either way I will but this hockey manger to help these guys build to better things in the past . I am new to OOTP as I first bought the baseball a few years ago and now understand it much more and see all they have done and I think the boxing is almost as good. keep working hard guys I have your back!!!

TBCB was sold to PISD, which is owned by Paul and Marc. TBCB is now Paul's game. Before, it was Andreas' game (Markus had nothing to do with it), and, yes, he had trouble paying attention to it and OOTP at the same time.
Jeff, who's the FHM producer, worked on Eastside Hockey Manager, so he has a very good idea of how software development works. We've seen complaints along the lines of "it's an unplayable mess," but when people give specifics, they seem to be looking for things that FHM doesn't offer right now, or things that we are working to improve ahead of the 9/3 release date. Sebastian and Malte are the others working on FHM, so, yes, Markus is not involved. OOTP has continued to be updated during FHM's development. Going forward, since the two sports have opposite schedules, we won't have any problems maintaining and updating both games. Finally, the NHL is listed under the US because it's a US-based league. The nationalities of the players have nothing to do with that. What percentage of players in MLB are from other countries? Even if 90% of MLB players were foreign-born someday, it would still be a US-based organization. Last edited by BradC; 09-01-2013 at 03:35 PM. |

I am really surprised by all this concern for a Hockey game made by OOTP! I personally could care less. I am here for our boxing game. Hockey, for me, ranks somewhere near soccer and tidily-winks! As far as a sport goes anyway. I know there are a lot of hockey fans, and don't mean to offend anyone. But with all that said, I wish them all the luck with their hockey game. But as far as I know, we really have no connection with OOTP other than this site!

The boxing game is the same way for me ... not a chance in heck I would risk my 10 year dynasty with it because there are too many things that were either ignored in beta or just not done correctly ... good PR there |

I haven't accused anyone of being ignorant. There's a thread on the FHM forum where people can upload crash-related saved games, so the devs can take a look at them. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...savegames.html
Also, we can't address specific issues if people just say "the game is an unplayable mess" (or words to that effect). I've played the Beta quite a bit myself and think that assessment is an exaggeration. Yes, there are things that need to be fixed, such as the trading engine, and I know for a fact that Jeff has been working on that part of the game quite a bit lately. (Again, he worked on EHM, so he has experience with hockey sims.) I've simply noted that in general, we've seen instances where people have given specific gripes about things that are being worked on, or which won't be in the final version of the game on 9/3 but will be added later. That's not whitewashing - we're either saying "Yes, we know about that specific issue, and we're working on it" or we're saying "Yes, we know people want that feature, but unfortunately it won't be there on 9/3; we're hoping we can add it later." (For example, the game will add real expansion teams as you play through history, but you can't add expansion teams any time you want, like you can with OOTP - there are programming-related reasons for that. That functionality will be added later.) I should note that some things that will be added later won't arrive until FHM 2015's release next year - they're too complex to be added in an FHM 2014 update between now and then. As we've pointed out, though, this is v1 of a brand new game - look at where OOTP started with v1 and where it is today with v14. We can't make v1 of a hockey game that will be comparable with v14 of a baseball game; it's just not possible. Offhand, I can't think of any specific issues that have been raised recently that don't fall under one of those two categories (being worked on now or will be added later). In general, when someone cites a problem, we already know about it and are working on it. - Brad Quote:

Hockey for OOTP
I have it and the latest version is a mess in fact I haven't even played it except maybe between 6 and 15 minutes. This is how bad the game is right now. The game is expected out on September 3,2013 but I think the game should not be released well beyond this date because it's not ready for primetime yet. It shouldn't be released yet because of all the bugs it has in it. I won't play an unplayable broken game like this. They are rushing this out the door to us and what they should be focusing on is getting rid of all these bugs. I hear that crashes are everyone in the game, league customization isn't even in it yet, trades with the AI are terribe, it's a mess and its all because they don't want to take the time to fix the game properly.

The FHM release has made Paul's game look incredible ...
and yes with no specifics I downloaded the new version and it is completely unplayable ... I guess being able to put a new goalie in when yours gets hurt is a feature they hope to add later .... Game crashed twice before I could even play the first game with my team then my goalie got hurt in the first period and the game froze .... That is by definition, completely unplayable .... |
