Yes or no on a new patch? Spinning my wheels here.
I’d like to know if a new patch is coming out. Starting in April I posted in the bug thread theissues I was having and was told that those issues would be passed on to thepowers that be when they came back from vacation. Nothing has changed. I still have the issues even after d/l thebeta version and subsequent patch. On8/8 I submitted the requested dat files and have heard nothing. Maybe I am impatient as it’s only been a fewdays. I have uninstalled/reinstalled andread other posts for clues or help. Idid not submit a tech support ticket because back in April I could not access tech support (which I also posted in the bug thread) and since that time I have beenunder the impression that the issues were going to be looked into and I waswaiting for the patch (14.4.23). Some of my issuesmight be operator error, others might just be unique to my game and settingswhile other issues were being experienced by other players. As I was informed in a post, many of my issuesare not game breakers, but if things are not working correctly it might meanthat the game I paid for is and some of the enjoyment is taken away. If there is no patch and the bug thread is not being read then I guess I will have to go the tech support way. Thanks. |

So yes, you should wait for the next (and perhaps last) patch for OOTPB 14. However, you seem to have a clue about the situation as evidenced in this sentence:
Quote:
EDIT: Allow me to clarify my statement. If you are looking to the patch to fix things that you have NOT seen here in the forums as general issues, then likely you will be disappointed. I hope that you are not ultimately disappointed with Tech Support, but you must realize that there is only so much that they can do to address local and unique problems that, I am sure, are very often the problem of insufficient hardware/software or the lack of user computer skills.

Well, I don't mean to be! But, I figure it's better to prepare the guy if he thinks the patch is going to fix anything but what we talked about in the thread BN links to above.
I wish I or Tech Support could reach out through the Internet to everybody's device and fix their problems for them, but it's impossible, of course. OOTPD has to go by the numbers and trends; if a problem looks like it's "local and unique" as I termed it above, they can try to help but ultimately the solution may lie in uninstall, defrag, clean up, reinstall or even buy a better device. Bru-tal.

Oh, I know. My own earlier problems with OOTP 14 turned out to be due to the drive it was on, and nothing to do with the game. It happens.

I understand and appreciate what you are saying. But it’s not necessarily about being disappointedwith the results it’s about getting results, any results. It’s just the feelingof being left in limbo. Patch or nopatch coming? (I checked out the thread BN linked to.) Requested dat files or bug thread being looked at? If I have to use tech support that’s ok. I havealways appreciated the time they took to help or to look into things in thepast. I did what was asked or followed procedures and got little or noresponse. If the way the game is running on my computer now is the way it’sgoing to be, ok. If I have to, as I havebeen, I can play around the issues and move on, grudgingly. It's been since April. Something a bit more definitive on OOTP’spart would be appreciated. Thanks. |

So does Symantec. They reached through the Internet and repaired my copy of Norton Internet Security last week. It can be done.

Guess I should jump in here and say I personally solicited sley's files after reporting the problems he stated. Yes, he did eventually send the files and I forwarded, as well, the info that the file was available for evaluation. None of this is the Tech Team, just me, the beta reports, and Markus. What I haven't done, yet, is reply personally to sley to say this or that in terms of Markus' actions or responses. I have done that with other users, but frankly, with the number of requests and reports, I've been busy enough just making sure things get logged, let alone personally responding to every concern after the logging. While I'd like to, I simply haven't been able to, but I'll try to improve and look into it if I can, time permitting. Otherwise, yes, it's simply a matter of waiting for the patch and seeing if your issue was addressed. The majors and criticals almost always do, the marginals, not so much.

Thanks. I guess that's what I was looking for, some sort of confirmation that a patch maybe forthcoming or that the issues were being looked into. I appreciate the time and effort. |
