IFA's asking for too much $$$
I am playing a modern MLB League, and am at the July 2nd IFA signing period. All of the top IFA's are, individually, demanding bonuses well north of the allotted amount per team. For instance, I have it set to $4.5MM per year, per team, and many IFA's are asking for $6MM+ each. Is there any way to fix this?

It's not broken. Those guys are, in my experience, the ones with super-high ceilings. If you want to add one to your system, then you've got to be willing to pay the penalty in future international-amateur signing periods. You can always offer less. If no one else offers what they're asking, maybe you'll get them anyway.
Personally, I don't find any of them worth the risk of paying all that money and suffering the penalties when they probably won't pan out anyways. But, to each his own. |

I'm not 100% certain how this works, but it appears the game does the following:
- the PCMs you've set determine the talent level of your international amateurs. So whether your league is full of superstars or full of scrubs, the international amateurs will have the same general talent level; - the bonus demands of the international amateurs are, however, based on a comparison of their ability to the ability of the players in your league. So if your league is full of bad players (which I've noticed often happens when you newly create a league) a lot more of the international guys will want huge bonuses. But if you lower your PCMs (to make your new international amateurs worse), or your league is full of great players, almost all of them will demand only token bonuses. In the long run, your talent level of your league should normalize, so in a few years, you should find an expected distribution of bonus demands from your amateurs. But if your league is talent-poor, then you'll probably have to put up with high bonus demands for a few seasons. |
