Postseason rosters bugs?

Guys, I'm playing OOTP14, PC version, with fictional rosters.

My team reached the playoffs, but only 25 players from my entire season -- the 25 that were on the roster when rosters expanded -- are eligible.

Two of my players were injured during the final week, and three more were hurt during the first round of playoffs.

So, we're going into the second round with a 20-man roster, and no possible replacements from the 40-man roster.

Also, we just faced a pitcher from the opposing team who didn't pitch a single inning during the regular season.

What's wrong with this picture? Is there a way to fix this, perhaps in commissioner mode?

Thanks,
Dennis

I can't speak for v14, as I just recently bought it and haven't played any postseason with it yet...

But with v13, if you are between playoff series you can go into commish mode and under the player editor tab you can mark off a checkbox for "playoff eligible". After that, you should be good to move them onto the playoff roster, assuming your injured guys are then removed.

I'm not quite sure how closely OOTP mirrors actual MLB.. as there always seems to be injury exceptions that happen in MLB that aren't allowed in OOTP. For instance, I'm pretty sure mid-series injury replacements are allowed with commissioner approval in MLB, but that doesn't seem to reflect in OOTP. If the series is started, you are stuck.

Here's what I've heard works (haven't tested with OOTP14 yet):

1) Obviously the 25 players who are active when August 31st rolls to September 1st are initially eligible, as are any players on the disabled list.
2) If someone gets hurt in September, don't place them on the disabled list yet. You've got a 40-man roster, so just let them sit there.
3) When the postseason starts, before you play your first game, place any injured players you want on the disabled list. This should "activate" your injury replacements - which should be anyone in your organization on September 1st.
4) You should be able to follow the same steps in between series.

The AI team likely took the guy with no stats as an injury replacement. But it's impossible for me to say.

And as Nunyer said, you should be able to fix all this for upcoming games using Commish mode in between series.

Like I said, haven't tested this, and I don't know how the disabled list type (15-day or 60-day) plays into this, but I read on a different thread that this was the best way to get your playoff roster to work properly with regards to injury replacements.

The 2 above answers are correct and I can say I have done this twice when I didn't have anybody on my team all year available.

The guy the AI took was either on 40 man all year/ DL.

to add to what Nunyer said remove guy from post season roster but dont put on dl if you dont have to and make sure you move guy if he is in minors to MLB team then check Playoff Eligible and they will appear in Playoff roster and add them to team.

I'll have to read this again with more focus, but are the responses indicating that to do the fix, you must use commissioner mode and implement these changes? If so, I'd have to label that a bug. The game should not be forcing you to use these workarounds. If you can detail the problem- unless I've misunderstood it -and lay it out clearly for me, I'll log it for review. The process should be automatic without forceful intervention.

endgame,

I don't know if it's a bug, per se, but it is very unclear as to how to make the game allow you to do injury replacements. Basically a bunch of us on the forum have tried different things and found something that works as we'd expect. The manual on the playoff roster and how to manage it could really use some fleshing out.

This thread details some of the problems others have had with the playoff roster and injuries, the workarounds that have worked, and how OOTP compares with what MLB does:

Well I take the rule to be if a guy is on your 40 man roster in Minors or up and down all year he can be added to post season roster if you have less then 3 more players already eligible on top of the 25 on MLB roster sept 1st. The problem I have found is if you have a injury during the season the guy on dl gets Post season roster spot even if he isn't going to play playoffs cause he is out for 6 more months.

It's been awhile since I've ran into this type of issue myself, and I'm sure that the linked thread has more details... But I agree with Hefalumps... I don't think any of this is a 'bug' ... the game is likely acting exactly how it's coded.

I think the issue is that it's coded in such a way that doesn't reflect the realities of MLB. Injury replacements outside of the August 31st 40 man / DL rules are allowed, usually on commissioner discretion. Injury replacements during a playoff series are also allowed (see Nunez for Jeter in last year's ALCS).

The first restriction is somewhat easily worked around using commissioner mode. The second restriction is a hard block last time it hit my team and there appears to be no way to add a player to a series in progress. I think that should be addressed at some point. I'm hardly a programmer, but I think whatever check the game makes to see if a playoff series is underway could be removed without much fuss... allowing for a commissioner mode to save the day... but again... I'm hardly a programmer.
