Should I rebuild the Washington Nationals?!

Alright, I'm a Nationals fan and this year has been absolutely miserable. I'm starting to think that Mike Rizzo is an idiot and should be fired. Should I rebuild these guys around Strasburg and Harper, dealing about everything else for prospects? Do they even need a rebuild at all or just a few minor changes? Or should I just wait this season out and hope they put together a monster run and win the World Series?

Are you talking about your OOTP team or the real life team? The fortunes of players in one usually have little to do with the other. For example, in my Mets franchise Ike Davis is an above-average everyday player. Usually the 2013 Nats are pretty good in OOTP, so I'd be surprised if you needed a full rebuild.

The real life team. I kinda want to start a new game in 2013 and rebuild them. I'm not talking a complete breakdown like Astros and Marlins did, just trading some guys for some prospects and extending the run. Everyone is only giving them like a 3 year period to compete, which I think is complete crap because they're gonna be good for a long time. I also realize that the OOTP Nats are very good and usually win the World Series. Just like the 2013 Nats should be doing.

If it were me I'd move Werth if I could, and LaRoche, then focus on rebuilding the pitching staff with younger pitchers around Strasbourg.

Yeah thats what I planned on. Moving Werth would clear up some money and allow me to sign some free agents/ draft picks

Well, in real life it does seem like a lot of teams who come out of nowhere like they did in 2012, fall back for a year.

Of course, maybe this is the Curse of Strasburg's Arm (not using him in playoffs.

Make sure you get Curtis George, he's really good.

This doesn't make sense to me because the Nats already have maybe the best 1-2-3 of young SPs in baseball. Their problem has nothing to do with pitching. Its the lineup that has killed them...

Starting Pitching

I know they have the best 1-2-3 punch in baseball. But I would only keep two, probably Strasburg and Zimmermann and deal Gonzalez. Dealing Gonzalez would land me some solid young guys.

It just seems like you want to rebuild for the sake of rebuilding, but that's fine because you should play however you want to play. I prefer to rebuild in OOTP as well. I just usually pick bad teams.

If you want to play without editing players then you can't trade Werth. He has a no-trade clause. I'm playing as the Nationals in my OOTP game and he's a burden.

I'm in 2015 and we won the WS in 2013 and then missed the playoffs in 2014 after Harper and Strasburg got hurt. The Nats are fun to play with though, IMO.

Forgot about that No-Trade clause. That'll make it even harder now

I took the 2013 Nationals. I traded LaRoche, Chad Tracy and Tyler Moore early in 2013 and wound up with Mitch Moreland as my everyday starting 1B.

I also picked up Mike Gonzalez to give me a great lefty in the pen.

Other than that, I rode them out and won the World Series. I trailed the Braves most of the season, but eventually overtook them. Beat (swept) the Red Sox in the World Series.

The bigger challenge with the Nats is 2014 though, and I really am enjoying it.

The owner was an economizer and wanted major payroll cuts. With Worth's no-trade, it made it very difficult.

I couldn't extend Haren (who was actually quite good for me), and eventually was able to deal Werth by benching him long enough to piss him off. Didn't get much for him, but the payroll relief was enough.

Now, I'm trying to find a good deal for Soriano - who led my league with 55 saves in '13. His $13 million is too much for a closer, especially in these tight times for me.

Also got rid of Espinosa, Suzuki, Stammen, Clippard, and a few others - mostly just for cash, because I needed it so badly.

My three "big" FA signings were Omar Infante, Franklin Gutierrez and Jeff Francis. It's much more fun playing "moneyball" than just overpowering people with an insane payroll.

My Braves say hi and bye as we leave town with the SWEEP and a 15.5 game lead in the division. BTW, where in OOTP can you check a players golfing score, cause that's all the Nats will be doing in October! #GoBraves
