Contraction
Looking forward in my league, I'm considering reducing, annually, anywhere from 2-6 teams until I reach a more ideal and workable format. Can any of you with experience in this area enlighten me with process, pitfalls, consequence, or suggestions? I'm interested in collecting thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

I made the mistake of contracting my league after the ammy draft pool was announced. If you do the "contraction draft" then, the ammy draft pool is also chosen from as well as the rest of the FAs. THEN, on your scheduled draft day, you get a new set of players in the ammy pool.
From that experience I would suggest not contracting in the time period between the announcing of the draft pool and the actual amateur draft. |

I used the Free Agent Draft feature and simply called it The Contraction Draft.
The amateurs wound up getting mixed in with the free agents, and then a new crop of ammy players were created. I was having trouble getting the game to restore, and decided to just move on with what happened having happened and learning from it. ADD: What had really ticked me off was that I had done a ping-pong ball lottery for draft position, and that took a while to get what I wanted to have happen happen. When I ran the "Contraction Draft" it ignored my manually inserted lottery draft order and went with what was supposed to be the draft order for the ammy draft, based on the season records. Having gone through more grief than I imagined I would, when the second draft crop came up and was set to draft on Nov 1, I used the 'randomize order' feature, so the same teams wouldn't get the top picks twice within two weeks. That function I did manage to have execute properly. Last edited by VanillaGorilla; 08-03-2013 at 08:48 PM. Reason: ADD |

I haven't done a contraction, since. The totality of my experience with that feature is just the one time. But, you do need to get rid of the minor league teams of the contracted organization before you run the draft. |
