Incredibly Deep Draft Pool

Hey guys,

One of my online leagues that just converted to 14 for the current season, and draft pool was absolutely ridiculous. We're talking like 4-5 draft classes worth of talent. Just to give a quick idea of what it was like, we had 46 SPs with 4.5 stars or better quality (although this includes a good amount of 2-pitch pitchers) and 65 hitters with 4.5 stars or better quality (103 with 4 stars or better).

For a bit of background on the league, it is a MLB league, it utilizes feeder leagues, we are currently in our 4th season, the previous drafts were relatively normal in overall talent for a MLB league, and like I said, we had just converted to 14 from 13 for this season.

So with all that said, I have 2 questions:

1. What would cause this pool to be so incredibly deep? Is it a problem with the feeder leagues?

2. How are these prospects going to develop? Will far less develop in order to keep the the talent level of the league balanced, or will a normal % of the prospects reach potential, thus destroying the balance of talent?

Any answers or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How many players are in the draft pool altogether?

Well, there is 56 pages of batters and 68 pages of pitchers, so about enough for 120 rounds! And we draft 25...

I think that's your problem right there. The game generated so many players that, while the ratio of elite to average to poor is the same, the raw numbers are inflated.

If possible, you'll want your commish to clear the pool and regenerate about 30-35 rounds worth. Not sure how he'd go about that, though.

The problem is, the draft already took place (other GMs were so thrilled with how deep the draft was, that it was very unlikely that they would be too happy with the commish fixing the pool, despite it possibly having very negative effects on the future of the league). With that said, there really isn't much the league can do about it at this point, other than make sure it doesn't happen again. Since the draft past, I was really looking to see if anyone knew how these specs would progress. Would most die out to keep the talent level of the league the same? This would be best for the league, but I'm not sure if this would be the case.

Have your commish check how many rounds he has the draft set to be, and edit it accordingly to avoid future superdrafts.

That said, there's not much you can do. Odds are that due to not all those guys being able to get PT in the minors (if using) that a fair portion won't make the bigs. But I'd wager on your league having a massive influx of talent in a few years.

I think I know what might have happened. When you add a feeder league, the league can automatically set the draft to 80 rounds, generating over 10 rounds of 4-5 star prospects. Go to league setup > rules to check for this so that future drafts aren't loaded.
