Stall/Crash when creating a new custom game with templates

OOTP stalls (not responding for eternity) on me when creating a new custom game, however not all custom games. I seem to have it limited down to the following spec.

When I load a template to an existing league, e.g. adding multiple major leagues (with minors) to the same league file (all majors and minors are realigned to new countries/regions - I just do this so it's quicker than setting up the same league structure 2 or more times from scratch).

In the .lg\news\html\images\team_logos folder only the ML and AAA logos are created and it stalls when trying to add the first AA team. It stalls during the "creating logos" stage (currently stalled at 6% for around 20 minutes).

If I create all ML leagues and minors from scratch by hand - i.e. no loading of templates I do not get this crash and it works fine.

Any thoughts or ides on fixes? Anyone else encountered this?

One thing to keep in mind is that templates are often incompatible between versions. So, a template from 14.1 may not work in 14.2 for example.

Thanks, but definitely not that. I'm trying to load a template I saved about 30 minutes ago both (new game and template created in 14.2).

Any other thoughts appreciated, creating logos still at 6% right now.

Just to confirm, I create a ML league (call it league 1), add levels of minors, save this as a template, then load it to my existing league and rename it to 'league 2' change team names, country etc, then load again and rename everything to 'league 3' and so on up to 4 leagues with 3 levels of minors each.

Sorry but I'm confused here. Are you trying to load multiple templates and combining them into that one saved game?

I can understand how it can be confusing... hopefully this gets it across.

Note all of the following happens within the same "New Custom Game" - I am only creating one saved game.

1. I create a 5 tier league, 1 ML with 4 levels of minors. I change all settings, names, locations, rules etc.

2. I save the league structure from step 1 above as "template league"

3. I then click "Load Template", select the template to load from step 1 above. I now have 10 leagues (i.e. the league I created in step 1 with it's 5 levels and an exact duplicate)

4. In the duplicate leagues (ML and minors) loaded at step 3 I change the country of the new league, manually adjust the names of my ML teams and align the minor leagues to the same country, remove any duplicate nicknames and replace with new ones etc.

5. So I still have 10 leagues, effectively one major league and 4 minors set in country A, and another major league and 4 minors set in country B.

6. I repeat steps 3 and 4 for as many times as I want the "duplicate league structure" to occur. In the example in my original post this was 3 times so that I end with original ML league in country one, and three other leagues (1 ML and 4 minors in each) with the exact structure and rules as my template but realigned to their own country. So I have 4 leagues in 4 different countries, each with their own 4 level minor leagues.

I did it this way as I wanted to ensure I duplicated the EXACT rules and setup in each league based in each country, without having to write it all down and do the manual setup of 4 MLs and their associated minors.

Now I woudl assume if the problem was in loading from a template, the stall at "creating logos" woudl occur when moving from the "hand made league" in step 1, to a "league loaded from template" in step 3, however it actually occurs when going to the third level of minors in the manually made league.

Hope that helps you or someone else understand and provide some guidance.

Thanks in advance for any help, all is much appreciated.

Sounds like you're confusing ootp...Have your tried deleting all the logos before you load another template. Acutally, I'd try deleting the logos before you make your first template and then delete the logos again before you add another template..Just a thought , but I'm willing to bet it'll work.

There are no logos in the saved game folder to delete, as the game has not generated them yet. The logos are just stored in the 'logos folder' int he main game directory, the game stalls when transferring/creating them into the saved game folder.

When I load the templates to create the 4 country league, I'm not doing it in an existing game, it's just when creating a new game.

What I would love is someone from OOTP Dev to either say "you can't do this, it's not designed this way" or to say "it should work this way, we'll investigate why it's not".

To be honest, templates should be created individually and then added to a new game, not all at once before you've even started it.
In other words, Create a new game using the original template, make your changes. Restart that game and save it as template 2. Do the same for the remaing 2 templates. Now load up the first save game from template one and import the other 3 templates one at a time, letting each one complete the import process before adding the other. Once everything is successfully working, you can delete the extra 3 saved games.

Or you can upload your template someplace and let me check it out.

Got ya.. I didn't know that about templates... anyway download this file and let me know how you go.

Appreciate your assistance.

The template linked below already has all four leagues added to it the way I describe above.

Unfortunately no and I never thought it would. Couldn't get past the logo loading same as you..Got only the canadian logos and then it hung...
I'm certain your best bet is to create each template separately as I suggested previously as that will work.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help than that.
I'm pretty sure that doing it your way is confusing the heck out of ootp cause all your doing is changing the teams names, rules etc. Doing that, ootp looks at the templates as being all the same really. In other words ootp thinks it's the original template with changes not 4 separate templates cause you never started the game before you created the 2nd, 3rd and 4th template. That's why you need to create a new game for each template you want to create. Once you've got the first template done, you can use that to create the second game. Same for the last 2 templates if you want. When done creating all 4, start one of those saved games and add the other 3 templates to it and it will work as long as you add them one at a time letting the import complete fully for each one before you add the other.
