Best Format for Exciting Play
I've been playing OOTP since 2001 and it's the best computer/sim game I've ever played. I have been playing out my games and have probably played out over 2,000 games. I use fictional leagues and my latest league is in season 11. I've won the championship 5 times and have made the playoffs 10 times. I want to have more of a challenge (ie less playoff trips and championships).
Any suggestions on league format and play for exciting games? I'm looking for ideas from simulating to plying out, to number of teams, divisions, and playoff format. How do you play for challenge and excitement? |

lots of threads like these out there, but I'll tell you what I do, and I'm sure there are a few others that will go along with some of it.
I play fictional too, but I do use the real MLB setup i.e. teams, affiliates, etc. But I do play the stats only game. No ratings, just stats and scouting reports. That's plenty of challenge for me, and other, better, more veteran players here. If you want ideas on stats only, just do a thread search. Great ideas in those from great players of this game.

Play a shorter season.
How short is up to you. I've played anything from 30-90 or so games...and it's enough games to make stats meaningful while making EVERY game and decision matter. Also prevents you from slogging through 162 games of bad seasons or too boring because you clinched 90 games in. |

Play stats only. See my signature to learn about it.
