Wrong State/Country For Some Cities

I have been importing my leagues since OOTP6 and have been running a fictional league, playing out all of my games. I just noticed that some states have a foreign country listed. For example, all of the cities in California list Zamfara as the country. So Los Angeles is Los Angeles, Zamfara...San Francisco is San Francisco, Zamfara....San Diego is San Diego, Zamfara

What's going on, how can I fix it?

Thanks!

Maybe you've done something to your world_default.xml file. You may want to try reinstalling the game, but make sure to back up any files you've edited and want to keep for future use.

If this doesn't help, then it may be a problem with an incompatible league conversion or something that went wrong with the process. OOTP completely changed the way that nations are handled a couple of versions ago.

What were the last two versions of OOTP that you converted between?

I converted from OOPT7 to OOPT 8 to OOTP 9 to OOTP 10 to OOTP 11 to OOTP12 to OOTP13 then finally to OOTP 14 over the past few years, as I purchased each game. However, my fictional league originates all the way from OOTP7.

I noticed when I explore the world, and go to United State, all the cities are listed, but the name of the state is wrong. Is there some way just to re-import that data file?

I may be wrong here but I think he may have a problem with an incompatible league conversion. IIRC, Markus completely broke down the game engine somewhere around OOTP 2008 and rebuilt it. Thus rendering the older versions of OOTP incompatible with the newer versions (OOTP's 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14).

I checked from Version OOTP13 and the city names were wrong there too. Is there just some way I can import the data file that contains the updated/correct city & state combination? Isn't it just a database file?

OOTP 2006 was the rebuild.

Older versions could still be imported, you just lost some of your history.

OK, so how do I fix it? Why can't I just go and change the state associated with each city? For some reason OOTP won't let me change or edit the state. Also, I was able to go back to OOTP11 and all the city/states were listed correctly.

You had a bad conversion. Maybe you could upload the files and try to have Markus fix it.

Hi BKL,

I am a member of Tech Support here and I can assist you with this. Since I don't know what operating system you have on that computer, I will for now just provide you with the basic instructions how to do this.
  • Locate your OOTP 14 data folder (it has all the files like ballcaps, jerseys, logos etc.). Click on the saved_games folder.
  • Inside your saved_games folder, click on the game folder that you imported from OOTP 13 (yourimportedgame.lg).
  • Inside of that yourimportedgame.lg folder you will see 16 files that end in .dat. Using a zip compression utility program like 7zip, WinZip or WinRaR, create a new archive file and enter all 16 .dat files - no folders needed.
  • Using a FTP software program such as FileZilla, Directory Opus etc., upload that zip file we just created.
Here is the link to the complete instructions how to FTP your league files to us: How to FTP files to OOTP Developments

Once you have uploaded your league files to us, please let us know the name of that file here in this thread and I'll very gladly point Markus to it.

If you need any assistance, please let us know.

Bowtie,

I uploaded the file as you asked, and the name is "BKL Fictional League Data Files.zip"

As I mentioned earlier, what I'm looking to have fixed is the states/city database seems to be messed up, so a number of team locations and player city of births show up wrong. For instance, San Francisco, California is listed as San Francisco, Zamfara....similar for San Diego and Los Angeles. It seems the state/country listing is wrong for a number of cities.

Thanks, what's the next step?

BKL,

You are very much welcome!

As far as the next step, I will now send Markus an email and describe your issue to him and point him to your league files. He (Markus) is usually pretty quick at responding to our emails so I should know something in the next 24 to 36 hours. Once I receive a reply, I'll pass that along to you here in this thread or in a PM.

By the way, do you know how to subscribe to threads? The reason I ask is you may want to temporarily subscribe to this thread so that way you will receive an email message when a reply is posted. You never know, it might just be from either me or Markus .

Also, I thank you for responding back to me. I had thought very seriously about stepping away from the forums for a while because it seems as though I've somehow burned some bridges lately over a misunderstanding. Anyway, I will stay around long enough to assist you until your issue has been resolved.

Cheers,
Bow

Just wondering if there was any update on fixing the issue with my game files, so the state names would show up correctly? I haven't been playing for over a week!

Thanks,

BKL
