Improved trading AI
The AI needs Lots of help with its trading thinking. I play my season replays on LOW trading-HARD. The Ai rejects a lot of reasonable trades then turns around and accepts ridiculous trades. (Darnell Coles for George Brett?????). I've even tried very hard and still made some mind-boggling deals.
I'm rarely offered anything resembling a fair trade, 39-year old aging vets past their prime for young top prospect (or two), and when it has happened it usually occurred after the trade deadline and my player didn't clear. The AI needs to hang onto their new free agents. I see an A-type I like, let another team sign him and can often trade a good young prospect or two and KEEP my own first round pick. If I have to I'll toss in a 3rd or even 2nd rounder to ace the deal. (with the comp 1st round almost all the players with any kind of future have disappeared by the 3rd or sometimes the middle 2nd.) And when I shop a player around, why do front-running teams offer me prime starters for good prospects who are only in my minor system. I initiated some clever trades (on HARD) with the White Sox that stripped their top two starters at mid-season. The team I was chasing folded badly and fell to 4th place and my Indians won the division by 15 games and one of the two starters played out the year in my minors.

I see nothing like you describe. Trade problems seem to exist in certain types of leagues. I don't trade draft choices, but I can see the AI having a problem valuing them properly. One of the ways to improve trading is not to have exploits that favor the human player. Trading draft choices is one such possibility. This doesn't suggest you shouldn't but just to point out a limitation.
IMO the trade AI is too tight and does not seem to value certain players enough to offer even face saving value. Because of that I end up eating talent and losing players to FA instead of improving the league. Just my 2 cents.

Rich, he's using OOTP11. I would suggest to the OP upgrading to OOTP14 ASAP.

The problem doesn't really involve draft picks but the logic the AI uses to evaluate players (although it will try to unload high salary all-stars on me). Average was way too easy and very hard was almost insane. Maybe the AI makes indifferent use of "untouchable".
And I'd hope the tendency of the AI to suggest the same trade again every month or so has been resolved (apart from using untouchable the AI could learn the meaning of "NO")

I'm trying to be patient with you, but seriously, take pstrickert's advice and play OOTP14 so you're not incessantly suggesting upgrades that are already in the game. Markus and the development team actually use these forums to help develop future installments. Cluttering them up with requests for features that already exist does nothing but make the useful ideas harder to find. |

My bad. I only lightly perused the forum rules and didn't realize I needed to be a v14 frat brother to post. I'm comforted by the knowledge you're watching me so closely. It gives me a warm fuzzy all over.

I'm just asking you to not post suggestions for OOTP15 unless you know what's in OOTP14. That's not trying to exclude you, that's just common sense. |

Agreed. Michael, why try to suggest improvements to a three-year old version of the game? Work on OOTP 11 has (I imagine) been discontinued, and there may have been improvements in the last three years. In the case of the trade AI, I certainly think so.
Perhaps a better way to phrase it would have been: "This is what I'm seeing in OOTP 11. Is it ongoing?" |

EDIT: Or heck, even the General Discussions forum. People will be happy to answer you there. I have tried very hard to be helpful and not come across as condescending; I didn't appreciate the sarcasm. Last edited by Fyrestorm3; 07-12-2013 at 11:26 PM. |

Actually I've posted quite a few times in the 11 forum. Lots of reads but almost never any answers.
