When Will OOTP Sell Franchise Logic to SCEA or 2K Sports?

Wouldn't that be cool?

With nexgen consoles coming out with the abilities to do similar things to your modern day computer, wouldn't it be something if a game like OOTP could be integrated into MLB the Show so that us users get the best experience of both worlds. Incredible franchise control integrated with some good gameplay?

The Show is almost unplayable after I discovered OOTP. I still love Road to the Show and stuff but Franchise Mode is dead to me.

There are two different audiences for the two games, and the overlap between them is much smaller than you'd think.

The problem with that is the same issue anytime on the Paradox forums suggests doing work with Creative Assembly. Paradox makes grand strategy games, while Creative Assembly makes games geared twords individual battles. People think that combinbing the two would make for a perfect game. But the problem is when you are allowed to take the individual events (battles, ballgames, etc) into your direct hands, this winds up being far more important than the upper level strategy (Interempire diplomacy, franchise management). The fact that they player has direct influence on the outcome. Its no longer about skill in management, and instead skill on playing the game itself.

Theres a reason these type of games are seperate, and while both can be enjoyable on their own, combining them would not be greater than the sum of their parts.

The idea sounds good but.....

The last thing OOTP needs is a bunch of bean counting suits making any decisions about how this game is produced.

A console game has to look good, and provide near-instant emotional reward. Neither of these things are OOTP.

Didn't baseball mogul do something like this about 10 years ago? I think it was Microsoft baseball where they leased out the sim engine. I think it was just for siming games.

Hopefully the answer to this question involves pigs flying, hell freezing or maybe even the Cubs winning a world series.

You said it. I keep fearing that Microsoft will discover it and gobble it up.

I am more serious than you think. Not about the fate of OOTPB, of course (well, I hope). I'm serious about about what happens to a product, a company, a bunch of people when their small enterprise is absorbed by large corporate entities. It happens over and over again and the result usually sucks.

Interesting take. You're saying that one type of game should focus on the tree and another set on the forest. I'm inclined to agree, especially when it comes to OOTP (if it ain't broke...), but I think there is a future in combining strategic and tactical level sims. It'd have to come down to user customization, where the customer would have the ability to control the strategical/tactical balance.

It always sucks.

As a Football Manager player for 13 years I can confirm that for all the marketing good that came out of Sega's purchase of SI the end user has suffered. Having just discovered OOTP I hope they don't ever go that route!

I'm not sure players of The Show would complain if all that happened was that simmed game stats got more realistic.

In business, you never do this unless you're ultimately interested in selling your controlling interests to another party or otherwise want to initiate a merger and sell off your technology and assets.

'Selling the franchise logic' is an exit strategy and not a marketing, sales, or product development strategy.

The real answer is that OOTP is committed to adding graphics in the future and will continue to develop them thereafter. That's the sane and appropriate path toward a combination of a sim engine with a graphical gameplay experience.

I think OOTP already offers incredible franchise control integrated with good gameplay.

Agreed. I play Road to The Show constantly but don't even touch franchise mode any more. OOTP is so perfect for me that console franchise mode isn't fun any more.

+1. And it's only going to get better and better with time (along with some trial and error of course).
