Game License & Updates
Hi,
Just as I've never had any dealings with OOTP before - how does the licensing work? Am I in a yearly payment thing basically like EA, are there significant updates to the game over the course of the year? etc etc.. |

one time payment for this version. It's in beta for another couple months but you get the game right away...just be prepared for a WIP version of the game for the time being but there are updates every couple of weeks. Many features are disabled and things are being ironed. I don't know how much enjoyment you will get from the game at this point as some people are really loving it and others are having a difficult time until the bugs are fixed (and UI tweaked). I do say that if you're a hockey fan whos into text sims you probably won't regret this purchase once it's officially released.
OOTP baseball has a new version each year, there are no monthly payments or yearly payments if you wish to only buy one version. There is no DRM too! That is the plan for FHM as well. One thing you will learn about a company like OOTP is that they truly care about their customers. Technical support is outstanding. These guys do have multiple updates (for FHM and OOTP) and listen to their customers requests (even though it feels like all mine for ootp baseball have fallen on deaf ears [I guess they just aren't a big enough demand but that's another story])

Like Dave said, there's no subscriptions or anything. It's just a traditional one-time purchase. And with that purchase, you get two licenses to work with, allowing you to install the game on up to two PCs at any one time.
As for support, are you familiar with Eastside Hockey Manager or Football Manager? If so, OOTP Developments works in a very similar way. Expect to see a number of patches in the months after launch, as well as a handful of data and roster updates. And then at a certain time in 2014, I would guess Spring or Summer 2014, official support for FHM 2014 will end, and full-time work will shift to FHM 2015. In a nutshell, you can expect: 1. Traditional purchase; No subscriptions. 2. Active post-launch support. 3. Official data updates. 4. Active modding community. 5. Yearly release cycle like other sports games. |

I'm sure there was a time where we also thought no micro-transactions would be in SI games either...boy, were we wrong. The day ootp does that is the day I stop buying their games. I won't buy another FM now...it's my hopeless battle against microtransactions. I have a feeling that they will be expanding their DLC each year and before you know it, it will be like any other EA game.

Any consideration to making this a true "open-beta" to allow people to play for free until release? This way we can find more bugs, data issues, ect.. and in addition as a crack dealer would say "Give em' a taste and they are hooked?" ...
