help importing historical players into draft?
Hey guys,
I'm playing regular 2013 season... On the player draft pool screen, at the bottom theres a tab that says "import historical players"... I would like to import some historical players into my draft pool.. How exactly do I do that? I click on the tab, it pulls up all the files I have under OOTP, no matter what I select it says "import failed"... im not sure what exactly I have to do to make this happen... can anybody help pleaseeeee??? Thanks so much in advance!!! |

Although Blue pointed ya to the manual, which explains what I am about to say, I will attempt a further explanation.
When you click on Import you want to navigate your way to the 14 Stats folder (unless you are using a custom database like Spritze then navigate to where you saved that one and use master.cvs) and select either the historical database.odb or master.cvs type in the players ID from baseball reference. the players 1st 5 letters from their last name and the 1st 2 letters of their 1st name plus their ID code #, 01,02 on up. Players with intials for a 1st name can be tricky. baseball ref has Aj Pierzynki listed as pierza.01 but to load him it is pierzaj01. Burnett also is AJ vs a.01. Select the year of import and then the rest of the options. I recommend Neutralized stats for modern era league. Also if you import a player who later becomes a SP but is a MR his 1st season, or 1st few seasons use Career for pitcher stamina otherwise he will forever be a MR. (don't quote me on that as there are many options when importing) Now I am still on 13, so i don;t know if this issue has been corrected on 14 but when you import a player his pro service years are hardly ever 0, I have imported a rookie Rickey Henderson 1979 with 55 Pro Service Years. So I always check the player after the draft if he is drafted or after I assign him to a team. |

game gave you lots of good points here i concur. if you are going to import a historical player, check the player before he comes into the game Fielding ratings are usually low, running (depending on the year selected) might be much lower than one may think, if a base stealer did not start stealing the bases for a few years) as well pitching and hitting ratings will be lower than the players coming from the draft engine that is because the import player will be rated on raw stats, say a .300 battting average. But in the game a .300 batting average usually plays out in a fictional/MLQS league as 20 points lower, say .280. Thus you have to boost them to see more realistic numbers from them long term. Pitchers especially can get huge jumps to their stats that may make a good pitcher somewhat average- so get to know the ratings, see how the player is rated when coming into the draft, then alter what you need accordingly |

Sprague made me remember something. When you import a player whether it's as a FA or going into the draft, his stats maybe low or even 0. It's usually because your scout has not had time to evaluate him. Give it a few days, run a scouting report on him or do a OSA rescout on League Setup - Functions and that will solve that problem providing he was imported properly.
