Amazing development
The story of Michael Fish, through the eyes of my head scout:
February 2012: Drafted in Round 115 of the inaugural draft by the San Antonio Drillers April 2012: Potential Rating drops from 22 to 21 May 2012: Potential Rating improves to 22 June 2012: Cut by San Antonio September 2013: Current Rating improves from 21 to 22 June 2014: Current Rating drops to 20, but Potential increases to 23 August 2014: Current Rating improves to 21, Potential to 25 October 2014: Current Rating improves to 22, Potential to 32 March 2015: Potential improves to 42 April 2015: Current rating improves to 40 (!), Potential to 51 May 2015: The Toronto Gold Sox notice that something has been going on, and decide to give Michael Fish another shot at the show by signing him to a minor league contract, 3 years after he became unemployed June 2015: In his first full month of playing professional baseball, Michael Fish wins the Western AA League batter of the month award. August 2015: After playing the first 62 games of his professional career at the AA level, Michael Fish is promoted to the Raleigh Catfish, Toronto's AAA affiliate. His current and potential ratings improve to 67 (!). October 2015: Michael leads the Catfish to a AAA World Series win, with 1.104 OPS for the end of the regular season and .986 OPS for the playoffs; his overall rating improves to 72 and his potential to 73. The moral of the story: check the free agent listings every once in a while for high potential minor leaguers. |

In my Astros game, during the 2014 season LF Austin Wates morphed from an all-glove/little-stick AAA depth guy into a potential All-Star with the bat. Gave him the LF job for 2015 and he's on pace for 30-ish homers and 5-6 WAR. I love this game.

That's pretty awesome. I only remember something like that happening with me like one time, and it wasn't a guy I signed, just a player with extremely low potential when I drafted him late.
Would love to see how this guy does in the bigs.

March 2016: Michael Fish suspended 50 games for failing to comply with the MLB drug testing program.

so now we know ![]() ps speaking of strange prospects you may not have come accross the bizzare story of montaous walton- who made himself into a fictional prospect on the internet and actually got signed by some agents Really good article on the story just appeared here. read it a few days ago- for an ootp player it will likely be fascinating The Prospect: Montaous Walton just wanted to play ball, so he made up a fake online persona, fooled the media, signed with an agent and ended up in handcuffs - SBNation.com |

A Michael Fish update: he was of course invited to spring training, and performed at about a league average level; that is, good enough to get onto most 25-man rosters but not quite good enough to get onto my perennial World Series contender. However, an injury quickly brought him back up, and he made sure to stay there this time, and in fact has just been selected to the All-Star team in his first season in the majors. Congratulations!
