Version 0.9.40 Game Update Now Available

Our newest game update, Version 0.9.40, is now available, including a data update.

You can download the new version at:

(PC) FHM - Update 0.9.40

PC Installation instructions: After you download the file just install it over your existing game (you don't need to uninstall the old version first.) Make sure to select the correct path to your game if needed.
Mac Installation instructions: After you download the .dmg file, open it, move the fhm.app file to your applications folder and copy over the old version.

After installation, the game should display "Version 0.9, BETA Build 40" at the bottom of the statup screen; if it shows a different build number, you'll need to re-download and reinstall (and before doing so, make sure the update file you downloaded has been deleted and your browser cache cleared.)

Saves from earlier versions are NOT compatible with this version.


Changes/Fixes/Additions:

It's been a while since the last update, owing to our New York meeting; hopefully the wait is worth it. We're still getting some of the kinks out of player development and generation, but I think it's starting to round into form now, although I'm still seeing issues with the quality of the player pool after a few seasons.

Our immediate priorities now are an overhaul of the in-game interface and (finally) tackling the issues with AI player evaluation and roster management strategies that are leading to things like questionable trades, drafts, and signings. Scouting weill get an overhaul as part of that process.

We're getting very close to being able to implement fictional leagues. Initially, the flexibility in league setups will be a bit limited, but once we're satisfied things are going to work properly, it should be possible to open up more options.

Players in non-playable leagues should start generating stats in the next update, so no more blank histories for those players.

League/online play is slated to get implemented in late July; it should resemble a simplified version of OOTP league play.

Finally, we're planning some changes to get more community involvement in rating players.

Bug fixes:
Player photos should now display properly again.

League champions and histories are now saved properly.
League draft history no longer starting with 0/0 as highest pick/round number.
Crash bug during saving process fixed.
Fixed occasional crash in July 2015.
Missing generic logos for new teams added.
Older players should no longer continue to develop physically.
Younger players should now develop physically and mentally at the intended rates.
Young, newly-generated players should now start at a slightly higher skill level.
Cancel button now works properly in "Save game as..." window.
KHL teams should now sign players during free agency period.
KHL teams should now make better choices about which players to cut if foreigner limit is exceeded.
NHL players should no longer occassionally sign for $0.
Players should no longer get weight reset to 80 pounds after their first season.
Drafts should no longer stop happening during historical games.
Hall of Fame should now list members properly.
Corrected display bugs with some non-English characters.
Game should no longer crash when trying to save changes after signing a player to a new team in commissioner mode.
Fixed some Canadian bantam teams generating foreign players.

Changes:

League-specific statistics settings implemented - league scoring/penalty totals should now more closely approximate their real-life totals instead of every league getting the same generic settings (not implemented for historical play yet, that'll be in the next update)
National player generation quality settings adjusted.
New national name categories and name files added.
Reworked development of mental attributes.
No longer possible to select an autoplay-to date that's earlier than the current game date.
New retirement system implemented.
New emergency replacement system implemented.
Players on non-playable teams now get a training schedule.
Free agents will now have a chance to move to nonplayable leagues if playable leagues haven't signed them by a certain date in the season.
New player generation system tuned, correcting miscalculation that was partly responsible for limited number of NHL-caliber prospects.
Changed the placement of some stats in the Skater Stats displays to a more familiar arrangement.
New Commissioner Mode-editable fields: Contract Maximum, Player Protected List Size, Max. Foreign Players Dressed, Max.
Foreign Players on Roster, Enable/Disable trading checkboxes, Minimum Salary.

Database Changes:

Adjustments to non-playable transaction settings.
Generic teams added for some minor hockey powers.
Leagues/countries with significant amounts of updated data: NHL, AHL, NCAA, OHL, KHL, France, Germany, Finland, UK.

Would someone please post again how to find the hidden files on mac so I can drop the new file into the right folder. I will make a note of it this time so I do not have to ask again. Thanks in advance for your help.

open finder, hit shift+command+g, go to application support, find the ootp folder.
but you dont need to do that with the update. just open the dmg on your desktop and drag the fhm icon into the applications folder as instructed.

Unfortunately I've not been able to get past September after 11 tries.. The game keeps crashing. Some times it crashes when I click a player, but mostly just at random dates in the end of September. So, I guess I won't be able to test this version.

Anyone succeeded?

I made it through September no problem but it was just on autosim. You could maybe try a fresh install it might help.

Edit: I have noticed however the push escape to end autosim is still not working lol.

You likely need to uninstall and reinstall, that seems to be happening occasionally when people try to update. Not sure of the cause yet, but reinstalling has fixed it 100% of the time so far.

Hey, I was trying to install a logo pack but I can't find an OOTP command structure... using a Mac. Nothing. The only thing I can think of is the game and its save state somehow exists in the on machine DMG file.

Either way, I'm confused. The way it handles program installation is the most frustrating part of the mac experience. if you don't want to do anything useful beyond Mac's presets they are a pain in the ass. Windows in that respect is 1000% easier.

But enough complaining.

Historical seasons have not worked on any years past 1988 for me on the last 3 or 4 builds. Uninstalling/reinstalling has not had any effect on this.

i've been running into a similar problem - i'm running it on a mac and if i try and run a historical season it's been getting to the mid 30s on "Generating Attributes" and then starts pinwheeling on me. i've tried the uninstall/reinstall just now and have hit the same thing.

I know what you're saying but there's no there there... I went to the post for the ?.?.34 version and looked it up in terminal (for the record, I'm a scientist so I have familiarity with unix) and couldn't find it whatsoever... rather confusing, really.

Also, I seem to have skipped right through the draft in my 1986 historical game. I simmed to the day of the draft and there was no option to start it.

Hit GO in the menubar at the top > While the dropdown menu is open Push and told Option - if you do Library will show up and you can click it.

Next follow the path.

If I'm going to try and set records for PIM's with my tough guys enjoying a lineup of the Detroit's legendary bash bro's Probert and Kocur, then I'm hoping there's more emphasis on the tough guys here guys ?

I've played a few seasons here with Colton Orr and Frazer McLaren in the lineup and every team in the NHL went European! No offence folks..
