Do You Have To...
When you start a new fictional game, I have heard you need to sim 15-20 years, then delete all league history and player stats then sim until your desired start date.
Is that really necessary? I have heard it is because the initial player talent is not the same as if you were to sim 15-20 and then sim until start date. |

It's not necessary, but if you want to avoid your initial player pool establishing records and performance levels that may never be matched through the rest of your league history, then it's suggested that you should set your game to start 15 to 20 years early, delete the history, and then proceed at your desired starting year.

I used to do it and finally stopped. It's no big deal.

I've never done it and I've never had a problem with records being broken later in history.

I always do it. The first batch of players seem to dominate in my experience. But to each their own.

Yup each to his own. I do it from my experience in v12 or v13 with the initial created players dominating records. Haven't tested it in v14 but still sim ahead/delete history just in case.

I am still seeing it. The first year of my fictional league sim you will see 10-15 people hit 40+ HR's with 1 or 2 surpassing 50. The same settings 20 years down the road I have 2 or 3 hitting 40+

Or initial MLB players who are career record holders like Pete Rose (PA, GP, H, AB), Ted Williams (OBP), Rickey Henderson (R, SB), Barry Bonds (HR, BB), and Hank Aaron (RBI)?

Not sure how much you're into an history of your league but why not start with say 5 or 6 small leagues within your universe sim 15-20 years, then bring in what would be your main league and take the players from the smaller leagues. This would mean your players would have a back story and all records in your main league would be fresh, you could either have the smaller leagues going belly up or them being feeder/minor leagues for your main league.
