Irony? Fragile - REALLY?

So I'm playing a league that started in 1979. As I reach the end of 1980, I get the list of upcoming draft players. I see Cal Ripken in the list so I take a look at him info and he's listed as 'Fragile'!! Really? Ironman is fragile?

I'm not sure how that's determined, but something is wrong in the calculation of who is fragile if Ripken is... LOL

I've deleted my original post because I don't think it's necessarily accurate. Upon searching other threads and trying to find information in the manual, I don't think it's clear why Ripken has been assigned his fragile status.

i could have swore I read that the game randomly generates injury ratings for players. I did a search but couldn't find it.

Well, you could be right, although injury ratings are typically based on injury history in the game, and that is largely random. But when players are created, the question is: how are their injury ratings determined?

I know that I've read some things about rookies being imported as fragile, and that may be due to their usage or perhaps to the lack of injury information. Maybe it's random, but it would nice if it was based on historical data. However, using stats can be misleading because some players with low usage weren't necessarily injured. They just weren't starters. But, personally, I think that players with 500+ at bats should be durable if you're using recalc stats.

So, to offer a correction, I should say that Ripken's injury rating will likely improve once he has played through a season without suffering multiple injuries. That should help him improve from fragile, even if the game is not using any real life stats as a basis for injury ratings. But, if the game randomly starts giving him injuries and some of them are major, then he could end up as fragile again.

sorry, that was what I meant to say, when players are CREATED they are randomly given injury ratings w/o looking at past history. So if you create a historical lg in 1985 all players "created" will have random injury ratings. Again, I swore I read Markus saying this in a OOTP14 thread before or right after game was released, maybe even in one of the patch threads.

Almost certain injury ratings are randomly determined.

On a side note that this made me think of, I would love if there were a way to track consecutive games played so I can see who the Cal Ripken of my league is.

you could manually change the fragile status to iron man status when you edit his profile.

Yep, I do things like this a lot when they deviate drastically from history.

Another reason why I love the game. I am fine that in a parallel universe Cal could be fragile. I actually prefer it. That users have the ability to alter their altered history as they like is one of the awesome things about OOTP.
