Stadium Capacity
Quick question. Do stadium capacity increase to reflect finances in the league? I just started a league using all settings to start the league in 1960. I noticed that all the stadiums were between 13,000 and 17,000. Usually I play with leagues beginning in the year 2020 so I never worried about the stadium capacity because finances did not change as the league advanced. I am going to sim from 1960 to 2010 so I don't want to have seating capacity at 13,000 in 2010.

I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but I wish that the Stadium Capacity actually worked in OOTP.
I'm really tired of seeing a 15000 capacity stadium regularly sell 17000+ tickets a game. Stadiums usually have some standing room above and beyond their listed capacity, but not in the thousands. Makes it more difficult to control finances in your baseball world. |

I believe that you will have to update the stadiums manually to see changes in capacity, but I can't be certain. Typically I use real life stadiums, so I'm not sure how it works across multiple decades with fictional stadiums.

In my Canadian League I update stadium capacities routinely, and do the same occassionally in other games/leagues. When I make these changes. and as I raise the average attendance figure, I see attendance climb. In this league I haven't let average attendance exceed any team's stadium capacity.
Just as an FYI, I have never noticed any games with attendance exceeding seating capacity but admit that I don't pay detailed attention to this on a routine basis. |

I always set avg attendance to a couple thousand below capacity, but still see lots more tickets sold than there are seats.
It's easy to check - just scroll to the bottom of a boxscore - it shows game attendance. Then compare it to the home teams stadium capacity. |

Just did a spot check in multiple games and I just don't see this. I have clubs averaging over 98% of capacity but find no cases where tickets sold exceeds seating capacity. I wonder if theere is some difference between our setups that might explain the difference in our experiences...

have never seen the the number go over capacity. If you raise the the limit to your stadium the number will go higher to like 98%. Would love to see a picture of the standing room only game. I never had that even in world series. Always some empty seats every game

Just one example from a current league -
Team has stadium capacity of 19,400 Their avg attendance for the past season was 20,514. |

Did that team make the playoffs? There was a little bug on one of the reports showing the attendance for the season in which the total attendance included post-season games but the average was calculated by dividing that total by the number of regular season games only. That would naturally cause the per-game average to be higher than it really was, especially if the team made a long run in the playoffs.
Not sure if that bug was corrected or not... |

I recently wanted to upgrade my home stadium from 37,000 to 43,000 capacity. I made the edits. Then, a few games into the new season, I happened to notice on the Box Score that the game attendance was 43. I then looked back in horror at the Box Scores for the past week to see home games with 43 attendance. I guess I somehow forgot to add the zeroes.
I wonder what the diamond vision quiz was between innings. "Guess Tonight's Attendance!" A) 28 B) 19 C) 43 D) 36 I'm more careful with the stadium editor now.

I was thinking more the Expos in their dismal final years...
Still, with capacity of 43, that must've been the hottest ticket in town! |

In the following sections the attendance listed for a club is a combination of both its regular season attendance AND post-season attendance: History Team > Front Office > Advanced tab Team > Front Office > Graphs tab League Financial Report The per game average attendance is calculated differently on the Team > Front Office > Advanced tab as compared to the League Financial Report. On the former, the average is calculated based on a club's regular season and playoff home games. On the latter, however, the average is based ONLY on the number of regular season home games. Consequently, because the attendance reported includes both the regular season and playoffs, the listed per game average is actually overstated compared to what it really was that season. oooops....my bad.......can't believe I missed that.....sorry!
To the point of: " Stadiums usually have some standing room above and beyond their listed capacity, but not in the thousands." With a seating capacity of 37,272, in 1984, the Cubs had a paid gate of 40,723 on June 16th, of that year. There were 4 times in 1984 where the Cubs drew gates in excess of 2,000 above capacity (and a 5th that was 1999 above cap). It does happen. And this was back when official attendance was actual tickets torn, not tickets sold. |

Edit - this is where having the ability to assign "rivalries" in your league would be useful. Those are the kinds of games where you see SRO mostly, that and special events/play-offs, but not every home game of the season do you sell to SRO. If we could assign 2 or 3 natural rivalries, this would work good. Last edited by Bluenoser; 06-13-2013 at 07:08 PM. |
