CPU teams dumping talent too early
I am not sure if this is a problem or if it has been discussed in the main forum.
However I notice that it is not unusual for CPU team to dump high draft picks whom they have invested signing bonuses after only 1-2 years at rookie leagues. These players seem to still have good potential and their performance has not been bad. Has this been discussed anywhere? |

The monetary investment is a separate issue and one that, if large enough, I'd want to examine. However, when we're discussing 1-2 year frameworks, personally I'd look at the current prospect rating over draft round position. Even in the 1-2 year timeframe, if a player is in, arbitrarily, the top 25-30 prospects, no, he should not be dumped and he should not be involved in trades, except for great returns, IMHO.

There is a known issue with roster limits at the lowest Minor League level leading to prospects being released. I've seen that set off a chain reaction as other teams sign these prospects and release other prospects and so on...... Do you have roster limits?

Never use roster limits in your lowest level of minors. The game explicitly advises against this for a reason.
In the end, the AI is typically going to value current ability and development over potential, so the newest players in the organization will be the most likely to be released if you use roster limits and force the AI to make cuts. |

I agree with the advice given so far. Another component is to manage the draft pool size. If your draft pools are huge, then it can exacerbate the issue as you are adding more talent than you are weeding out through attrition.

I don't know if this is related or not, but I've had guys like Martin Perez (then rated at 5 stars) Rule 5 draft eligible and Allen Webster (then rated at like 3.5-4 stars) available off of waivers (of course I claimed him, but it felt a little wrong) after just a year (in 2014).
I don't recall there ever being any logical reason (terrible stats) for them to be available either. |
