According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Steroids do not grow muscle magically. What they do is help you recover and be able to work out at fully efficiency more often. What you are saying is like saying someone in a clothing factory might be just as good without a sewing machine. You can't work out at that level without steroids. Without chemical help the body can't recover enough to do what these guys were doing.

On the other hand you are right, steroids did not make Bonds or anyone else a great player. They had the talent. What it did do is help add power and extend his career. Bonds and Clemens particularly may have not had as many years without the ability to fight aging by working out the way they did with steroids, HGH, etc. Drugs like HGH and now we are hearing Adderill help also in helping with vision and concentration.

The sad point is without the HR record and steroids Bonds likely would have been a HOF. He was a great hitter with some power before he took anything. If he let aging take its toll and retired he might have a shot at the HOF. Clemens definitely would be there had it just realized he was getting older and his body was declining. Steroids do not make a baseball player but they often prolong careers and might make a AAA player a part time major league player due to more power.

How I hate emphasis on HRs in the modern game. It is saddening to see teams turn down great defensive SS who have speed and hit for average in favor of some guy who hits a few more home runs. Of the all bad things I have seen with the Astros over the past years, Lunhow's trend toward higher power high strike out guys has been the worst. I miss 7 gnats who steal bases and hit singles with one lumbering giant at 1B who will hit 30-40 HRs.

Well said, Biggio ... when one see a ballplayer, in the like of McGwire, who hit 49 HOME RUNS as a rookie?!?! ... his talents speak volume ... however, he had a chronic back problem, so hence - steroids to help strengthen, with recoverability to play the Game he loves ... he truly has the best HR power ratio compared to all ... he was truly unique ...

Pitching and defense still wins championships virtually every time. Any GM who focuses on power and offense above fundamentals like pitching, defense, speed, defense, base stealing, and base running, is obviously in it to make money and play to the lowest common denominator rather than win a World Series. It's that simple.

If your team isn't showing a true commitment to the fundamentals of playing winning baseball and having a shot at a championship, then don't buy tickets, don't buy merchandise, and otherwise don't support the product with your dollars. If you're a season ticket holder, show up at any town hall meetings that the GM holds with buyers and let your voice be heard. Write letters and emails to the front office, and get others to do the same. If you want to get hardcore, you can even notify the club that you're going to contact advertisers and sponsors to discourage them from supporting the team due to mismanagement and disrespect of the fan base.

It may sound crazy, but these tactics can work, especially when you start working the sponsors and advertisers and telling them that you won't be buying their products or services because they're supporting nonsense. These tactics have worked in many other areas of business and entertainment, and the reason that teams get away with what they do is that fans generally waste their time complaining to sport talk radio hosts and not actually communicating with the teams that they support. The clubs are in business to serve customers and make a profit, and if you actually take the time to get involved and voice your displeasure, if you vote with your wallet, and if multiple voices are heard, that action will sometimes force change.
