Illegal Roster Issue
I posted this on the bug thread, but haven't received any guidance. Apologies for the double post!...
I have a fictional league and am 9 seasons into it. It's been great. But during the most recent off season I've run into an issue where my roster (and about a half-dozen other CPU-controlled rosters) is suddenly empty. If I try to advance a day I get an "Illegal Roster number of players on roster" message. When I go to the TRANSACTIONS screen my roster is fine. All the players are listed and where they'e supposed to be, be it on the Major League roster or my AAA roster. But if I click on the ROSTERS screen it's empty. Completely empty. Same goes for about 6 other teams in my 26 team league. Further investigation shows that the budgets for all 26 teams are out of whack, even for the teams who have full rosters. On the budget screens every single team has tons of money, none devoted to the players on their team. Yet when you click on a player, you see his salary listed as normal. The game won't let me advance with this roster error, so I've been stuck at the beginning of spring training. Frustrating as I just made a few trades to strengthen my team and I'm itching to start the new season. I checked out the FAQ and the instructions for fixing the "illegal number of players on roster" error, but in '14 there's no button for allowing ghost players on the LEAGUE SETUP/OPTIONS screen. Besides, my minor league team (as well as the other teams that have "illegal rosters") has plenty of players on it, not short on players at all. Would the LEAGUE SETUP/FUNCTIONS "Fill teams with fictional players" option resolve this? Any advice on how to resolve this would be much appreciated. |

As far as I can tell, there is no option to allow ghost players in '14. Can't find it anywhere. It's not where it used to be in older versions of game (LEAGUE SETUP/OPTIONS).

Have you tried going to league setup and "Run Computer Manager on all Teams"? |

Thanks. Found it. Enabled incomplete minor league rosters. No change. I also ran computer manager on all teams and that had no effect either. Six teams still have empty rosters on Roster screen. Everything looks fine on their Transactions screen, full active roster, full AAA roster, etc., though. Still can't advance a day, though.

Do you have an earlier back-up of your league?
One other thing you can try is filling each level with fictional players. The option is in league setup. Be sure to select each level and then click the button. |

Maybe try checking the roster screen and making sure that you don't have some kind of filter applied.

I tried filling the league with Fictional players but that had no effect. It also didn't give me the option to select at which levels to fill. Just asked if I was sure I wanted to do it. I clicked OK, and there was no change to any of the teams' rosters. |

I had noticed in some fictional leagues after start the financials were all screwed up in earlier versions. If you had a draft and all teams have players you use the button to set financials based on current payroll in league set up. To be safe you might want to generate fictional contracts for every one first. The method I have used for years on creation of a fictional league is draft then generate financials based on payroll.
If teams do not have players due to bad financials you might have to go into commissioner mode and assign them free agents first. |

Ghost players are only for minor league teams. If you major league teams are the problem this will not work. I am not sure if a financial reset would work or something is corrupted in your league file. Unfortunately, I don't think there is anyway to uncorrupt a league file. However, if this has happened for more than one league I would suggest to uninstall the game and reinstall something might have glitched on install.
