Post Faster sims

I just thought that I'd put my two cents in. I was considering buying OOTP4 but I finally decided not to after playing the demo some and doing more waiting than playing (or so it seemed).
"Well, do you have details of what you mean?" you ask.
In fact I do... I simmed from April 8 until June 1st (the demo won't let you play past that, another bummer), whith no interruptions and the game creating log files. It took 3 minutes and 40 seconds. While with Baseball Mogul on the other hand, for the same length of season, while creating two files per game, it took 22 seconds. This may sound like a small thing but it is important to me. Thanks.

Hard to compare OOTP to Mogul. OOTP keeps track of 100's and maybe 1,000's of more stats than Mogul. For speed I'd go with Mogul, but it is shallow stat-wise compared to OOTP. Plus 1 level of minor leaguers, points=? for salary and no-in-game management.

Up to you.....

What type of pc are you running the game on, processor speed, RAM ect? I know my games sim faster than that but not by a great margin. Conversely there are baseball sims out there that sim much much slower than this.
You should look at the game for its other merits, especially if you can only find fault in the sim speed, before making a quick decision....

Under the Simulate menu (at the League Schedule screen) is an option for Sim Options. The first option turns off game logs when simming. This will help speed up the game.

I played alot of Baseball Mogul, I think I stopped in the year 2150. It is faster I will give you that. It does do one other thing better, the Mogul new section is quite a bit better. To play it that much, I did like it. It started to feel old though, I wasn't getting anything from playing it anymore. By the way, it only took a 5 months of playing to play 150 years, thats pretty fast.

OOTP on the other hand feels like a baseball experience on the pc whereas Mogul always had that game feel. Yeah it might be slower but after playing the OOTP series for over a year now, I still get surprised by the stuff that happens. It never gets old.

I see your point about speed being important and in your case thats very important to you but from a guy who has played both extensively, OOTP is just more fun, more custumazation, more in-depth, tracks more stats, and is just flat out a better game.

But thats just my opinion.

Try disable simulating your minor leagues this speeds the game up alot and up above he mentioned turning off game logs as well.

FASTER SIMS?? What exactly are you looking for 10 seasons worth of results in 10 seconds? I actually think the sims go too fast. I like being able to watch the scores go by and being able to absorb the results (oh, this player won his 20th.. man that team gave up 8 runs in the 9th.. that game went 16 innings..) and I can't do that here without clicking on each game individually.

Maybe what we need is a variable sim speed setting. Go from ULTRA FAST to MLB SLOW...

(in fact if it were up to me, the slowest setting would sim an inning a second instead of a whole game at a time - kinda how FPS used to do)

Thanks,
Robert

Two things, 1. I am using a 800 Mhz chip w/256 meg. RAM.

2. The speed was not the only thing that made me decide not to buy the game, just a main issue. The other big downer to it is that you can not save while managing a game. (the managment issue is why I considered the game in the first place) But I do not usually have the time to sit down and manage a whole game @ once, just too busy. If saving mid-game was possible, I might be able to overlook the speed. Maybe.

I can usually knock out a game in 10 minutes, which to me isn't long enough to warrant an in-game save option. That's just my opinion, not trying to knock yours.
